I really do learn more on this forum than any other. Be it frames, parts, saddles(!), position, on into history, finance and health etc.. I try to be careful and nuanced in life, but I want a new car.
My question is do I go with the new Drive E powertrain (the future) or do I go with the old T5 or even T6 in a Type R. Do I wait, or go for it? I actually trust the experience and opinion of a Paceline forumite more than those found on the car sites.
Thanks Everyone

I am drooling over the new V60s. But I've had a T5 and that's one hellava good motor too. I have a 2.5L Subaru Outback and gas mileage of the T5 is the equivalent, yet the power and grunt are superior.

I don't know enough about Type E to comment yet. But man, I love those V60s.

The road testers are very happy with the performance of the new motor. But nobody's said anything about the real question: does a bike fit in with both wheels on?

Also don't know enough about the new motor to comment on that but I agree the new V60 is definitely lustworthy.

I'm not at the but a new volvo stage of my life yet, but I am going to be taking a 2003 V70 for a test ride on Saturday...

My V40 has a T5 and awd. Also a manual transmission but I digress. The motor has very good punch, and has been material in making this a fun car to drive. I can't comment on newer models, but the move to smaller displacement higher efficiency power plants has to be good for the planet.

Why'd they stop making the C30? Why can't I get an S40 either?

Those cars had old tech and the retool was prohibitive for the US market....you can get a 40 series hatch with all kinds of variations in Europe (v40) but for whatever reason we cant have it yet.

What about the v70 one of my all time favorite cars, just the right size, best I can tell it's only the xc70 now.

Wonderfully solid cars. We had a V70R for several years and really liked it.

I think Volvo's deal with Mazda ran out when Ford sold their controlling interest back to Mazda? Same as the Fiesta/Mazda2 twin.

V60's are pretty cool looking. But I still lust after 240's.

We still hope you find one, but some home expenses have pushed the search back a year or two. Maybe by then, there will be used V60s. They're very nice looking wagons.

Soulspinner, et al. have been so helpful! Thank you all! Yes I like the xc70 and v70. I have friends with both, one of whom spent about 6 months looking for a 2005 fwd v70 and scored a very good one. I believe in the wagon and looked closely at the xc60 drive e, including a test drive, it worked well. The wagon is the same length and width, height is the xc60s only size advantage. The wagon will be our "nice" car, our three dogs deserve some luxury and they will be safer with less height (I believe). The AWD T5 with sport pack and a roof rack is in my sights now.1697882483

Well, how about a 60 cm 650B randonneur with full metal fenders, like this?
