One can only speculate what they hope to get from Twitter. Recruits at colleges, maybe? I don't know what their history of press releases includes, but if it's extensive Twitter is a decent way to broaden that reach these days. I presume they don't believe any attempts at disinformation from their verified account would be more successful than the same from proxy accounts, nor that a Tweet war with their own proxy accounts would really accomplish much. In any event, whatever they say their reason is, 87% of the Twitterati will not believe them. Kind of amusing to use Twitter knowing that most will assume something other than honesty and sincerity from every Tweet, but I guess they're not in it for humor.

I'd prefer the CIA put time, effort and money into other endeavors-like keeping the Afghanistan CIA Station Chief's ID secret, perhaps?
