n.b.: This is *NOT* my project--I stumbled across the link.

What to do when you're young, have lots of time, and access to a machine shop:

Whoa, very nice!

Too bad, even if I did that for my wife: "husband, that's so sweet of you" --> Never rides it

It ain't mine. No relation to the builder. Edited the original post for clarity.

That's my kinda guy. Amazing project. Only quibble might be to hire a professional welder to get better welds (and minimize bondo), because the fillets are the least refined detail of the bike. But man, what a project.

Tell me how you really feel.

I am impressed with a couple of things: the guy's energy, enterprise, and dedication. It shows that a non-professional can build a frame, although he obviously knows his way around a machine shop, and has access to one.

I'd like to know how many hundreds of hours he spent on this project. By comparison, how much would a 2nd-hand alu TT frame cost? Also: Bondo? Discuss.

I do plenty of things around the house myself. Some of them even work. But to me, this is why god invented framebuilders.

"A very aggressive position"

You're not kidding mate. The only time the back is parallel with the floor is when I fall off.

Do you think he just built this to have an excuse to slack off on his part of household chores?
It would be hard to ask someone to finish washing their dishes if they were running off to build you a frame from scratch.

Really though, the kind of person who would finish a project like this probably would not slack off in any part of their life.
