So Athena with a couple carbon bits instead of alloy.

Hope they kept the Athena connectors in case I need parts down the road.

OMG, my plan to keep Record 10 until 2016 and then move to EPS, it's all coming to fruition! Happy 40th birthday, Christian! (Also, I got two Diet Cokes for the price of one from the vending machine today, so pretty much my life is awesome.)

What I was thinking. Probably meant to slot in exactly in between Record and Athena, price-wise.

From what I've read previously, Athena EPS is no more. Only Super Record/Record and Chorus.

So they're bumping Athena up with some carbon-y bits it seems.

That is correct. Chorus EPS, Record/SR...pretty sure Chorus EPS is just rebranded Athena with some carbon bits.. Athena connectors I think.

Centaur adios, Athena, Veloce remain. Veloce 10s, all else 11s. Price wise, Athena bout what 5800 will be..Chorus about like 6800, Record about like DA...Chorus EPS about the same $ as Record mechanical, Ultegra Di2 about the $ as DA mechanical.

So that makes sense.

No wonder my Centaur group was so inexpensive.

Get your Athena EPS groups from Ribble now! Onl $1,901.68!

Chorus EPS will be a 2015 model which will have the new crank and brakes. Our distributors are taking orders and saying delivery will be in a few weeks. MSRP is $3500.

What is new about the brakes? Were the leaked images chorus? If so, it looks like it may be a cost cutting effort.

wait, athena, centaur and veloce are going away?

that is a real shame IMO. centaur is such a solid group. hopefully it's a year or two before they come back as mechanical 11-sp.

No. Athena is going mech, and it and Veloce are getting shifter upgrades. Centaur is extinct. Or so it seems.

I guess the cool new EPS style thumb lever wouldn't work with Ultrashift?

Don't know what works with what. What Campagnolo says and what works with what is sometimes found out in the trenches.

Wondering if Chorus/Record/SR mechanical get a new thumb button also.

Trying to figure out the brakes myself…the new Chorus are $50 less wholesale than the previous gen.

No figures about weight difference and their ETA is past due though.

QBP isn't even showing them yet…

Veloce is solid and Athena is basically 11spd centaur so it seems to make sense to me.

Maybe centaur will come back as a mtb group :)

Trying to figure out the brakes myself…the new Chorus are $50 less wholesale than the previous gen. Shimano pads too. Maybe tektro produced? This would surprise me at the chorus level...

Based off the image I saw, they look like a skeleton version of centaur/veloce. The adjustment screw is in a tektro/shimano location.

I'm about to commit back to 10 speed Campagnolo again after a few years only using Shimano. 12-30 and 12-27 10 speed are Centaur only as far as I can tell. Those two ratios are not offered in Veloce. Hope those stick around for a bit.

Yes...I'm guessing the EPS style wouldn't work since it doesn't allow for the large range of motion used to dump 5 sprockets...?

Ahh, makes sense. I'm guessing it's still Powershift also, one higher gear at a time. Kinda wish Campagnolo would just dispense with potential OE groups, and just become premium throughout, like Mercedes did when they dumped the 190, Porsche did when they dumped the 'people's Porsche(914), Rolex and electronic watches.

Chorus, Record, SR...differences in materials, more or less carbon or titanium.

Those thumb shifters could make me a convert from Di2, but not at $3500.

How long before someone hacks shimergo electronic? Doesn't sound too hard even if they use different protocols.

Though I guess if you can put satellite shifters anywhere...

$1800 for Athena EPS....right now.

MSRP....what's 6870 MSRP? Even tho all aluminum, 6870. Carbon isn't any answer but it's more expensive than aluminum in components.

I'm almost inclined to agree but with two amendments:

Athena mechanical stays on as a premium silver alloy group only. (Ultra shift and ultra torque return) the price could match chorus for all I care. Make it an alternative option.

Centaur level 10spd chains and cassettes stay in production for customers like me.

Oh, and I for one and a 914 fan.

I'm not bashing, I'm dead serious. Comparing discounted pricing is a slippery slope. I'm going 11 Speed at some point in the next year or two. I prefer electronic. The placement of the thumb shifter was always a problem for me but this update appears to address my concerns. So if it is equivalent to Shimano it comes down to price.

Still ain't biting. Matter of fact, going "backwards." After doing Chorus/Record 11S on my last two projects, next build will be 10S Alloy. I know, yawn.

*****never used EPS (or the "other one.").

It's pretty keen, not even in the nice to have category...does what mechanical does, just 'keener'.

Looks like it's all loose cog Veloce for the 13-26 and 13-29. BTW....I've got a loose cog 13-29 and a 12-30. The 12-30 has the 3 largest cogs on carrier, and is much lighter than the all loose cog 13-29. And......the 13-19 from the 13-29 and 21-30 of the 12-30 shift well mixed together. The 12-30 doesn't have a 16 and I would rather have a 16 than a 12. If you have all the different size spacers from the loose cog cassettes, and the spacers from the Chorus and Record 13-29 (steel or steel and Ti) with carriers, and understand where they go like you and I do, then I bet you could keep a light version of the 13-29 running a long time.

Shame about centaur, at least for the name. It always seemed the most fitting name. I bet somebody in the marketing department felt pretty clever the day they came up with that one.
