View Full Version : Calling all chemists! What's better than acetone?

I am using acetone to try and strip off the graphics on a ritchey 4axis stem and get the stealth look. They are coming off, but very gradually after a lot of scrubbing. Is there another chemical ( that won't blow me or my house up) that will do this job a little quicker and easier?
If I simply dip the stem in a tank of acetone, will the chemical damage the physical integrity of the stem at all?
Thanks as always.
Appreciate all the great advice.

its not very practicle- but what here is
this is what I remove my logos with-
you also need a large volume air compressor to run it- so tack on another grand for that-
but it works great and does nothing to the finish
think of it as a 4000- 6000 rpm eraser

i have heard that easyoff oven cleaner works at removing decals. i have not tried it personally. i do not know if it would also take off the paint. hell of a lot cheaper than an air compressor though!!!!

M.E.K. otherwise known as "Methyl-ethyl-bad-stuff", available at any home depot. We call it Methyl Ethyl Phatalene or Methy Ethyl Death. Make sure you are outside when you use it and wear a respirator with cartridges that block VOCs

Oven clean will remove decals nicely, as well as paint and the surface finish on aluminum items.

Xylol. And do what Pan Terra says.
Occasionally, I'll soak something in acetone for a while, then hit it with the powerwasher.
