Love the commenter of the person filming the video. "At least he won." :p

He should just blame it on the paint. "I was putting out some much more power than anyone else. They weren't affected, but for me..."

Thought the new rule for USAC amateurs was no more than one hand off the bars during the finish. Epic crash. Guy will live this down or up forever.

i remember one year @ the harlem classic several years back the winner in the pros did the same thing. bahati and others avoided rolling over him in an artful display of bike handling.

He came pretty close to doing some serious damage.

It's always been that way, but the lure of the photo is too strong for some.

I don't think anyone who has never won a big field sprint gets to comment on this. I'm just happy the few times I've done a bone headed move were not caught on tape. It happens, esp. when you are gassed. Good for him for winning. I doubt it will happen ahain.

No doubt but he was just excited. He was not making a boner move crossing lines to sprint etc. No biggie.

commenting restriction limited to only those who've won field sprints?

what is this, the recently-upgraded-cat-3-soon-to-be-pro forum? :bike:

If I was working that race, we would have had a little post race discussion.

I say those who came behind him at finishing speed exhibited amazing bike handling skills to avoid the collision.

Noah is the grandson of Joe Saling, he a Somerville native and longstanding icon of the sport.
Joe has been the emcee at the TOS for decades, and was announcing last Monday as well.

Nah, just trying to remind the arm chair quarterbacks who might be tempted to ridicule this unfortunate accident that it is easy to do something stupid, like blow a corner, touch a wheel or screw up a victory salute, so the "you're not a pro, dude" comments need to come from pros, or at least someone who has pinned a number on. My upgrade from cat 3 happened over 25 years ago, and I have not had a license this century, just trying to curb the dickish comments with one of my own. :butt:

Dottie Saling is a pretty experienced official as well. I'm sure the conversation took place.

I don't think anyone who has never won a big field sprint gets to comment on this.

step one: you are wrong, everyone's safety is at stake and thus everyone gets a voice in the discussion.

step two: even were those the rules on commenting, I'd still be here saying you are wrong.

We've all made moves that in hindsight weren't ideal, that's absolutely true. However, it is actually a USAC rule now (if I recall), and thus is his responsibility to follow. He is a REAL fast kid, and I'm glad that he is going well- but that doesn't absolve him of his responsibility.
