I don't know if it's good luck or bad luck... but my number keeps coming up, and I keep getting 'one more life'. I've had a couple of big crashes in the last six months, and more or less walked away from both.

Anyway, my most recent crash has got me thinking 'bike camera'.

I've always steered away from gopros and contour hd's, as they're just too big. However, I know there are some really small 'spy cam' car-key remote cameras that some people use. While the size on these small ones were good, being of chinese origin, the firmware and user experience always seemed to lack polish.

I'm just wondering if anyone out there knows of any action-sport/cycling specific cameras that have a small, subtle form factor. I don't want to look like a telly tubby and I don't want to have an even more cluttered bar area. Garmin and headlight is enough!

I have done a fair bit of googling but I can't seem to find much. And everytime I randomly come across a thread, there's yet another brand offering a large-form factor camera. Surely there's gotta be some minimalist but super-functional ones knocking around!

Those rearfacing light+camera units seemed pretty cool and I may get one of those, but I think a frontwards facing camera is more important.

Thanks in advance all.

i assume you saw this, in reference to rear-facing light/camera? http://fly6.com/

i know it's not what you're looking for, but the contour camera actually is pretty small. i have a friend who rides with one 90% of the time and it weighs about as much/takes up as much space as his winter light (i.e. the "see everything" 1000+ lumen type lights).

the new shimano camera seems promising as well: http://www.bikeradar.com/mtb/news/article/shimano-sport-camera-cm-1000-just-in-41193/

I like the oregon Scientific ATC 9K. Its very rugged, light and water proof. Mine is going on three years with lots of use in unfriendly environments.

I ordered this camera flashing light from a Kickstater campaign - scheduled to get it in the next couple of weeks. It's an interesting concept. Can't see any reason why you couldn't mount it to face Foward.

That is the one I am considering. This one looks like a good idea too: http://fly6.com/product/fly6/

the quality is 720 so its not hd, but the camera is small and pretty cheap. the wind noise is pretty loud, so the audio is not good. to mount the camera I just use one of those silicone bands from my garmin.

I have a car dash cam that runs 720p @ 30 fps. You usually CANNOT read plates or even street signs at this resolution even in optimal light conditions. My friend has a much better dash cam @ 1080p and you can read plates and signs clearly.
Came in very handy when he got sideswiped. My cam is $75 his is over $250.

I like the fly6 but I'm waiting for a 1080p version.

I pre-ordered the Rideye after they told me it would be 1080p.
