Are the pinch bolts on the various 2-piece Shimano cranksets interchangeable? I need to pick up a set for my FC-9000, and the LBS only has some in stock for an older vintage XTR crankset and a FC-7800.

I've had to deal with this before. I'm pretty sure the road crank bolts are all the same M6x19mm size. Seems to be the mtb cranks had a shorter bolt. But, its been a few years, so I can't remember the exact difference. Anyway, the bolt for the 7800's should work for you.

techdocs.shimano.com (http://techdocs.shimano.com) says the part number (Y1E512100) for pinch bolts on FC-7800, FC-7900, and FC-9000 is identical.

M6x15mm

About $6/bolt. Not cheap, and I'm sure if I had the inclination I could hunt down a cheaper alternative that would fit. But I don't have the inclination, so I'll hand over my money to Shimano instead.

What happened to the old bolts?
