Thanks BBD, interesting article. I'll read the entire decision when I have some time. Have you read it? If so, what are your thoughts?

I did read the CyclingNews story today and it was very informative and thought provoking.

On a personal level, I still don't believe he did it. It is just so absolutely against character about everything else I have EVER heard about the guy. But on an intellectual level, the evidence is pretty damning. Given what the story says, he certainly had more than a fair chance and enough time to gather and present evidence on his own behalf.

So he may very well have done it. It would not be the first time someone who appears lily white has turned out to have feet of clay. Unfortunately, though, this case has done little to materially change the current atmosphere akin to a witch hunt that seems to pervade the "war" against doping. For anyone accused, the presumption is guilty until proven innocent. Meanwhile, the UCI will no doubt continue to use their tactics of obstructing defense efforts and trying to dishonestly spin public opinion to serve their own pride, i.e. financial stake in appearing to be succeeding in the "war."

The most significant change this case may have, though, may not be in the public's perceptions, but instead in helping to build momentum among riders to organize in some way. Hamilton alludes to this in his own statement. Sooner or later riders are going to realize that, in the words of Benjamin Franklin, "If we do not hang together, we most assuredly will hang separately." The UCI is never going to agree to have testing done by some independent--and therefore fair--third party unless someone forces them to do it.
