Ok, here's the deal. I have both groups in hand. I've been riding 9000 since July last year and 7900 for 3.5years before that.
So herein lies the dilemma, I've just taken hold of my new custom frame and will be building it up this Friday but need to choose which group.

It seems an easy choice to go with 9000 but I really don't like the new hood shape, and much prefer 7900(hoods)
Am I crazy to even consider 7900 ?

How about 7900 shifters and derailleurs with some different cranks and brakes? Rotor crank arms, praxis rings, and ee brakes gets my vote without knowing more.

Good hood shape is a pretty huge factor. You're gonna appreciate a lever that fits your hand in the long run.

When selling groups in the shop on a new bike, I always said get the lever that your hand liked the most. If you don't like the shape of 9000, use 7900.

10s 'stuff' is going to be around for a while.

dont over think it. if you like 7900 more, use that. truth is that unless you're riding 10k+ miles a year, any dura ace group should take a long, long time to wear out, put the group you like the most on and forget about it.

I agree- that's sounds like a great build. I would suggest to get a wheelset that's 10/11 compatible. If you decide to go to 11 speed only, then wheels wouldn't be an issue. Please post pics when you are done and good luck with the build.
