It is really looking that way.

That would be more like "why do we need SRAM"?

Just kidding : I love my SRAM stuff...

Small, dual caliper, small rotors..front....two calipers on front so less heat and less fork flex ala motorcycles....

I thought that was electronic vs mechanical.

Or steel vs carbon?

Compact vs traditional geometry maybe.

Or Chinese construction vs the world.

Never a dull moment!

Is there truth to this? I've heard it elsewhere.

I fully understand the design and application. I mean, do you think that is Campagnolo is playing with?

Motorcycles went to dual discs up front because they needed more stopping force as engine power and speeds continued to climb. If you double the swept area, you could double the stopping power. (you also double the force causing the forks to flex (upside-down forks emerge). Yes the heat is distributed between them but if you use them to their full capability you get double the heat energy. This also is where wheel strength required mag wheels because of the hub torque. Spokes were no longer up to the task without regular maintenance.

If it is, then it would be nice if the debate could be on the merits, which could of course include aesthetics. The level of snarkiness combined with absence of substance exhibited by some relatively new posters is moving this place firmly in the direction of the new rbr forum.

I'd say that's setting the bar a bit high. ;)
