...no cable ferrule needed on front brake, cable should go directly into barrel adjuster end. Otherwise, nice ride.

That particular frame is for sale, as it happens. 52 x 53cm for short-reach calipers, seller is motivated, details here (http://www.hampsten.blogspot.com/2014/04/yard-sale.html).

Nice bike! Is it yours?

The bike seems precariously perched and so close to the edge of the dock. I cringe at the thought of it tipping over and falling into the water!

Such beautiful bicycles.

I had the pleasure of riding a Strada Bianca last summer and it certainly caught my attention. It had Challenge Strada Biancas and they fit perfectly under the fenders.

I get to order a bike next winter and Hampsten is in the top three.

What are your other two contenders? Are you going steel or Ti?

Can anyone compare the GPTi to a Moots?

I've had a Vamoots, compact and a compact SL. And currently have a GPti. I prefer the geometry of the Hampsten. It's more planted when doing hard out of the saddle efforts. Don't get me wrong, I really liked my Moots especially their finishes. But Steve and team make the experience a great one and the finished product is unbeatable.

I have the best of two worlds. Strada Bianca ti built by MOOTS with YBB rear end and a beautiful paint job.

Road is a nice magazine, but, one wonders about a business model that in this day and age that has no free internet presence at all. Good luck with that.

Steve,

I notice you've been primarily spec'ing the Phil Wood seatpost clamp recently, do you prefer it functionally to others (Thomson) ?

Not mine, size is off by about ten cm's! I just think they're really beautiful bikes.

Don, I like the looks of the Phil clamps on the larger seat tubes we build with but the Thomson seems to fit better on the smaller tubes.

Well, here's the deal. My brother has a Serotta Legend ti that I can ride anytime I want, so that itch is scratched for ti.

If I ordered a Hampsten, I would love a MAX framed Strada Bianca. As long as I could sneak in a 700x28 or 30, I'd be thrilled.

The other two contenders are a Dave Anderson Stainless and a Curt Goodrich Randonneuse.

All slightly different niches, but it would allow me to retire some older rides that have compromises built into them.

Time will tell, but I wouldn't go wrong with any of these. :)

love the frame! the reviewer has got to get over his fear of carbon! Don't get me wrong, my main ride is steel frame, but carbon is everywhere today. And no matter how good the brakes are, are they really worth mentioning? the point of a racing bike is to go fast! sure you need brakes to slow down for a turn. but how good does it need to be? I'm just saying...

I love the ride of my Moots Compact and have never the opportunity to ride or
even touch a Hampsten in person yet I am drawn to this traditional top tube beauty like moth to flame
