That is a really clean looking bike!

You'd be surprised, DH guys are just as weight conscious as every other cyclist out there. World Cup DH bikes can get down to the 33-34lb range. Really light considering what these bikes are designed to do... and 10-15 lbs lighter than just a decade ago.

Cheers,
KP

It's hard to understand DH bikes until you actually go ride a DH trail. Then all of a sudden the geometry and the design make complete sense

I've gone off things with complete confidence that I would never have dared to on my xc bike

A few times a year we go to northstar at Tahoe for some lift assisted downhill. My daughter can ride up to the easier advanced/expert runs meaning air skills are not required to connect features. It's a lot of fun going downhill and not pedalling and rolling over and off rocks and roots with wife and daughter

Bike weight matters. Easier to flick around easier to pedal in the rythym sections

For a few days a year I really want a Santa Cruz V10 carbon .... But that bike has zero use for me outside of park riding

OP, Here are the boys training for the 2014 season aboard my DL31 rims. Makes me want a DH bike... if only we had mountains big enough in TN to justify owning one.. The go-carts look fun too. http://vimeo.com/89867911
