As some of you know, the wife and I welcomed our second child into the world last week, a little girl. Both mama and baby happy and healthy. I took this week off to help around the house, and such. duties included getting our oldest son off to daycare, laundry, dishes, etc. while mommy and baby sleep though - riding time!

yesterday granny was coming over so i got the pass to break in my new fixie moots properly, so i headed out the door.

the little girl, so tiny and helpless. it's quite amazing the way humans come into the world, able to do absolutely nothing for themselves. humbling to think we all started just this way.

Congrats on the new addition. I'm impressed you managed to ride through some of the most urban areas the garden state has to offer and lived to tell the tale. Not because of the drivers, but because you chose to do it wearing those red bib shorts. My friends would have run me down on general principal.

Kidding aside, it's nice that you're able to ride around NJ the way you do. I left NJ 7 years ago, now I'm scared to even drive there anymore. Guess I've gone soft.

I did my first century fixed when I was fourteen. I guess I didn't know any better, and it was all I had. All 108 of those ALS charity-ride filled miles in Napa. It's not quite as bad as it would seem, though, and it was a blast anyway. Your experience with the off roading looks real fun. Makes me want to get an SS cross myself, but of course, don't have the space around here for everything.

Congratulations on the child, and the bike seemed like it turned out pretty well. New moots and a baby is a good life for sure. Gutsy move to do a century as a first break-in ride!

the depressed parts of NJ are pretty bad, but OK to ride through if you stick to the main streets and mind your own business. Actually the downtown section of Newark is making a bit of a revival, with some really good bars and restaurants. Elizabeth, on the other hand is a city that really is struggling with crime, poverty, and unemployment, it's a sad story.

NJ is a very diverse state, for sure. Where i live is very NYC metro - with no traffic I can be in Manhattan in about 12 minutes. Lots of central NJ farmlands, the urban areas referenced above, and of course the shore. Many of us had a misspent youth bumming around the beaches down there. I still surf as often as i can find time for.

NJ is the brunt of a lot of jokes, but i do love this state, for all it has to offer.

Congrats on the new addition! Kids, as you know, are what make it all worthwhile!

Come on down to Alabama. We hold our breath every time there is an Alabama story that makes the national news and just hope there are no interviews. They always seem to find the least literate person with the fewest teeth and they are always willing to speak.

Back on topic, beautiful moots, you put together some very balanced rides. Kudos.

Hey! I didn't get a binglespeed when my second arrived! I should've read the fine print!

Congrats on both your new arrivals...

Your daughter is a gem ! Congrats.

Saddle angle and saddle to bar drop is another matter. Whatever works, but if you're not over 45, it's time to take up yoga..

??

saddle is dead level with the bike on level ground, and it's most certainly not a racing bike. I just rode 100 miles on a fixed gear bike with absolutely no pain or discomfort, i think that says all i need to say about my fit on this bike.

OK, from saddle tip to bar, maybe. Glad you had a good ride!

I regularly do fixed centuries when I feel the need to test myself (I only ride brakeless too), or when coach Strava posts one of those bi-monthly challenges/Fondos to get me off the couch, lol. It feels good, accomplishing, and you get to eat everything in the fridge afterwards.

fixed centuries <-- something really needed in training camps.
