Alot of you might hate Strava, but it's interesting to see just how fast Pro's climb/ride/etc. Check the KOM's and avg/max speeds. He didn't even win! Holy crap. I wonder what they did to the local records on Mt Hamilton & Mt Diablo on Stage #3. This is why they are Pro's and get paid to ride, haha.

He was 430th on Diablo and 79th on Mt Hamilton. Though I may have the segments wrong.

Niki Terpstra is a beast for sure, but it actually doesn't look like he was trying super hard (on the climbs). His VAM suggests a W/kg on most of those climbs of about 4.6. That's hard for sure, but not something outside of what a good amateur could do.

It's absolutely amazing how fast these guys climb. I watched them climb Mt. Baldy in 2011 and Palomar in 2013. The whole group goes up these climbs like they're not even there. TV doesn't translate it well at all.

Seeing the power files and comparing to your own capability shows just how bit a gap there is between them!

Couple of years ago I went for a ride with a guy I know who was riding PT at the time. After about an hour and a half, we were on a long for here climb, and he decided to push, no jump. He rolled me off after about 2 minutes. Garmin said I imploded at about 660w. He just kept accelerating and rolled away. He doesn't share his numbers so I have no idea what he was doing. Very eye opening for sure.

That is insane, a friend of mine did a similar ride to Laurens' but had twice the moving time and twice the suffer score.

Crazy to imagine how fast these guys are.
