Kind of on the lookout for a new-to-me road frame. My proportions dictate a relatively short top tube - something like a 57 with a 56 or 55.5 top tube would be ideal. Most makers' 57 would have a longer frame than that. Which would be good brands to keep an eye out for? So far I have Ridley and Colnago.

Was also considering a smaller size of an "endurance" frame to get a longer head tube without excessive length. Maybe a Giant Defy.

I just built up a TIME Fluidity. The Fluidity geometry has a relatively short top tube with tall head tube for size. I have a short torso, and mine fits me quite well. OK, it's not quite as good a fit as my old custom Legend ST, but it works extremely well. I love the the light weight and ride quality.

Not my realm of expertise, but many of the reviews of the "endurance" bikes mention both a taller head tube and shorter top tube, so you may be interested in checking those out.

(Sorry; I'm tall/long and can't say anything else more specific)

...sizing by top tube length is not accounting for a variety of other factors that dictate true fit. Instead of top tube length figure out your true reach, based on both seattube and head tube angle, and also figure out your needed stack. There are lots of source on the internet that cap provide you a quick primer on stack and reach. See:
