Very nice 40 miler to New Glarus, a predominantly Swiss little town south of Madison, with a couple of buddies.

We stumbled upon a vintage sports car hill climb in town. Unfortunately I forgot my iPhone/camera… but lots of interesting cars. Alfas, Jaguars, BMW's, MG's and many others. Perhaps the most fascinating was a black circa 1950 Ferrari 166 coupe. Was a little surprised to see such a rare care being 'raced'.

Made a lovely wail going up the hill.

Well, in lieu of actual pics, it looked just like this...

Cool car! Did you see any Amish? I knew some from New Glarus...

I rode with a couple of friends to a dam, they had a sign with an odd typo-

Nice weather in NC, around 55 to start, upper 70's by early afternoon. Still windy and polleny.

The pollen here in NC is slowly killing me.

Still managed to get in 50-ish miles or so with the morning group ride.

I am working 72 hour shift from this morning until Tuesday morning, so I will cheat a bit: last week I had four days off and got in three 35ish mile road rides in the 90 to 95° heat. Lots of headwinds blowing, too. Lovely.
I also took about a two-hour long mountain bike ride along a newly constructed connector trail between two Mt biking areas just south of town. It was hot, but a wonderful ride. Lots of smooth, flowing singletrack as well as some technical areas. Truly lovely.

Missed the shop road ride by a few minutes but had fun on my own, away from cars, venturing off on a fire road around the Mt Diablo.

Looks like we rode in the same place...just 150 miles apart.
Too bad that within a couple of weeks those hillsides will be brown.

Tested out the new/used gravel tires on my All-City Mr. Pink and went exploring. ~30 miles of gravel with no map or route in mind. It was awesome! With a couple weeks before Almanzo, it was nice to finally decide which bike I want to take there!

Discovered my tires are bad. I decided to replace a tube that had a broken Presta valve, so in the process of removing the tire from the rim I discovered that the rubber of the tread is separating from the sidewall, exposing threads! Turns out both tires had the same issue in many places. So not having replacements on hand, I'm now researching replacements.

Rode 3h10m, rolling out at 5:40am. Gorgeous morning in Westchester. It was probably the first time ever I rode three hours without ever clipping out. Only realized it as I pulled into my driveway.

Got in an hour yesterday, pressed for time.

Today I rode about 3 hours with TR Junior on a fundraiser ride for youth at risk. Started out with sprinkles, that cleared up to a better day, breezy mid 50's. The spawn is pretty whipped but feeling good about himself, as he should.

Now that the weather has turned he's more anxious to ride again. Youth, he'll be in shape in about 4 weeks, it isn't fair.

This week was a little ride called Tunitas Creek. The ride is two climbs up to Skyline Drive; the first is up Old La Honda road, a local classic...Eric Heiden used to ride up this back in his Stanford days, there are so many riders on this climb, you would think they were giving out free cups of starbucks!

then its a fast descent towards the beach...but the road flattens and its time to form a paceline! get to the general store and make the right on Stage road to the highway. Tunitas is just on the other side of the scenic bridge, but just before the climb is the "bike hut" a local farmer setup this up as a reststop for cyclist and there's food and water inside and it's all honor based. there were even a couple bikes in there that were for sale! there were not locked up or anything, just a price tag. Tunitas is about 6 miles long and 1,700 feet of vertical gain. the tough part is that it starts out easy enough, but the steep part is about half way into and it just keeps going. when it finally flattens, it just seems like forever til Skyline.

Beautiful shots from out West!

It was a beautiful but warm (95 today!) weekend here in Austin. Managed a nice 50 miler on Saturday with about 3200 feet of climbing followed by pool party, some great Mexican food, and a rather chill Sunday. Not a bad weekend at all.

It was my birthday on Friday so I took my friends out for a ride. Went out on the Bainbridge ferry from Seattle and came back on the Bremerton ferry...probably my favorite route in the region. It was pissing rain and the route has 4,000+ ft elevation gain over 53 miles. Here we are at the top of the big hill.

Great ride, even if I was soaking wet through most of it. Did it on my commuter bike, which is about 30 lbs with soft 35mm tires...slowed me down so friends could keep up. Made for a solid workout!

Got out for 30 on the Seacoast in Maine/NH on Saturday. Was nice when the sun was out, and a little chilly and windy when the clouds were covering. Only some spitting rain.

Just completed our 10th Annual "Ta-----a Triple" in SE Oklahoma. 85 miles with just short of 8,000' of climbing. Bluebird day not a cloud in the sky. Moderate temps with high in the low 90's and a great group of friends. No Bigfoot sightings this year but we thought we heard a "vocalization" and a couple of "tree knocks". Bet most of you didn't know you could have a ride like that in OK

Did the May Metric that our bike club puts on in early May, beautiful cool sunny day and great route in the southern Maryland/Patuxent River area, EXCEPT I somehow forgot my bike shoes and had to ride on my Candy pedals in sneakers! I did the 40 miler and was really sore the next day--didn't realize how much help your cleats give you on hills. I had to use some leg and butt muscles that I don't ordinarily engage instead! I now have a pair of bike shoes along with the spare helmet I was already keeping in my car. Next i'll have to keep a spare bike in the car at all times too, just in case.

Only got in 15 miles riding to Libby Hill Park to watch the Division I women ride up the serpentine cobbled hill that will be a feature of the 2015 world championship road races in Richmond. Not ProTour, of course, but gaps were appearing in each of the two ascents I watched. Very good crowd there. The park slopes generally upward from the road, sharply on the east side, and there are plenty of places from which you can see the whole climb. I expect it to be jam-packed for the worlds.

Also rode over to Monument Avenue, which is on the course and which also is cobbled. But whereas Libby Hill looks pretty rough, there are parts of the Monument Avenue cobbles that are smooth as asphalt. The course for the collegiate nationals did not include the 23rd Street hill with its max 20% grade.

Sun finally popped out Sunday afternoon. Too wet to ride the trails and the Merlin is in storage so went for a quick dirt road shakedown ride on my new to me Quiring. Lake Superior looks like it's still frozen all the way to Canada. Should be gone by June.
