Using EPO to chase the equivalent of a Strava KOM? He must have absolutely nothing to fall back on.

Dayum, Ricco just can't get a break. All he wants to do is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GugsCdLHm-Q

If I were him, I'd probably try to do something similar (the climbing records, not the doping). I think there is actually a pretty compelling product you could put together based on 2-up match races.

You'd need two comparable talents for the given course, but I think you could create a break-away cycling organization.

Never heard of him, but what's more surprising to me is that some people are surprised by it.

There's always the All-Drug Olympics (http://www.funnyordie.com/videos/c53d48a4a1/all-drug-olympics) to consider.;)

Maybe he was not using drugs. He wants to resell the drugs to make profit to buy a lighter bike for climbing!

Is Ricco our perfect example of how much of a difference doping makes? Is he someone who only rode at a professional level because of doping?

People often make the excuse that doping doesn't even help that much. I often wonder just how much certain kinds can help.

No one should be allowed to sell him any bikes or parts. No inner tubes etc. Maybe he'll go away from cycling that way.

I'm wondering if he can get further sanctioned for this, given that he is serving a 12-year suspension.

Yes, I believe Italian authorities are requiring that punishment will be to kiss Donatella Versace multiple times, in public.

It's funny but I think Malcolm Gladwell did a NYT article on that.

Sporting performance has got to the point where I can't identity with it and therefor can't relate at a meaningful level. Track sprinters exceeding 40km/ph. Football player weighing 250lbs and up running a hundred yards in 11 seconds. It's just not a tangible.

I'm not. Sometimes it is the only game in town between, say, 2 and 6 pm.

Ask me how I know . . .

Anyone considered that the 'personal-use' story is a cover up for on-selling a.k.a. trafficking/dealing

It's easy to understand why he did this. Ricco has been a confirmed dope fiend since his early junior days. He is addicted, not to the drugs themselves, but to the feeling of flying on his bicycle and humiliating fellow competitors (whether in the TDF, or now, a gran fondo). He can't stand the feeling of not being able to do that. But most of all, he is just an insufferable douche who used to make motorcycle revving noises as he rode past people.

Maybe this is the real reason he was doping. He needed the PEDs so he could ride fast enough to avoid someone pushing him into a ditch.

Ha! Quite possible, he was by far the most hated rider within the peloton. When a rider so flagrantly dopes he really pushes the limits of omerta and puts everyone further under the microscope. Not a popular thing to do amongst your peers.
