Well it finally happened.
Everything I read says no points for bicycle or ped. offenses.
Anyone out there had the experience - have an opinion?

Thanks

Spring is finally here, which means another NYPD crackdown. :help:

The answer to your question is no, according to the link below.

Does a Bike Ticket in New York mean points on your license?

Answer: No. Under Sec 131.3 of the NYCRR bike and pedestrian violations are not subject to the N.Y. State Point System

131.3 Point values (a) All traffic violations shall be assigned a point value of two points, except as otherwise prescribed in subdivision (b) of this section.

(b) Exceptions:

(7) The following violations shall not be assigned any point value:

(iv) Any parking violation

(v) Any pedestrian or bicycle violation

How could you get points on your driver's licence for riding a bike? Would that not be tacit acknowledgement by the city that you are a motor vehicle and therefore entitled to all the same protections?

Of course it could be that you don't have a driver's licence. What then?

You stopped for them?? Bike cop or cruiser? If the former, then Spartacus must be on the force now. If they can catch you, then they can give you a ticket. YMMV

Well, guess you were caught. In the future, there's always the turnaround, riding against traffic/down a sidewalk, hiding in a vestibule.. Back in the day, messengers carried fake IDs when Giulliani started his crackdown.

Wholly ····. That's crazy. I occasionally hear tale of someone getting a ticket on a bike in downtown Portland, but it's generally several people removed. Downtown, everything is on a timer, so I suppose you could make the argument that a bicyclist could reasonably wait for the light.. but everywhere else in the city, the lights are on sensors- and a bike just does not trip the sensor with any degree of reliability. You could sit there for twenty minutes, if someone doesn't pull up behind you.
