was a nice weekend here in NJ, though a little windier than i would have liked. got out for shorter rides both days on my Cinelli. i have to say, now with a few hundred miles on this bike, it really scoots. definitely not a century bike, the ride is a little harsh for that, but really goes when you step on it, climbs very well too. this bike is a keeper, and great for mixing it up with fast, shorter road rides.

on another note, veloflex corsas with latex tubes at 80ish psi are simply heavenly tires, probably the nicest clincher combination possible IMO.

anyone else get out?

We tried to do the Wells ave crit yesterday, got registered, pinned, warmed up, and they cancelled it on the line. No available police officers. Would have been my gf's first race. She was bummed, as was I. It was a little raw to JRA all weekend which sucked. Was looking forward to riding in circles again.

An observation: carbon may weigh a lot less but everyone likes your cool steel racing bike. I was standing next to a guy on an s works all done up and my bike, total cost as much as his wheelset, got more looks.

It was rainy in boston so didn't really get out. I did return five empty growlers to harpoon brewery via bicycle. Didn't have a lock, bit the doorman had his bike unlocked there and offered to watch ours so my significant other and I went in for a beer and then rode our bikes home. It was a nice way to end the weekend.

Skyline Drive from the North entrance (yep, the one that begins with an 8 mile climb). Gorgeous, but a little blustery. Got word later that a rider got blown off the road on one of the steep descents...

Dialed in my just built Merckx AluCross with a 54 miler in the southern Minnesota hills.

Thanks Casey. :)

I pronounce it ready for this year's Almanzo.

But will the engine be ready?

Raced MTB for the first time ever. It was worse than cyclocross. Wasn't sure that was even possible.

How did you do TJ? Stein I heard about Wells. Are you doing Blue Hills/Wompatuck this weekend? I'm just doing the M50+ as it's too expensive for two races.

I rode the trainer all weekend as conditions stunk. I also got my Category C officials license. Learned more about MTB racing than I ever want to know.

Yup, a bit windy but beautiful. Weekend started Friday with a quick 21 mile solo ride. A few hours of some gorgeous Bucks County backroads on Saturday. Steep climbs, fast descents and a bunch of gravel.

Nick- I will say it again. That is one sweet ride!

Rode the train from San Diego to Simi Valley Friday and got off and rode back down. Some crazy wind this weekend, but fortunately, once I hit the coast, a lot of it was on my tail. Bikepaths were covered in sand. I intended to do it through the night, but had problems with my SONDelux powering my headlight, which led me to ride through Malibu in the dark (yikes!) I holed up in Marina del Rey and started again in the morning. A couple quick pit stops in Dana Point and San Clemente and I was climbing Torrey Pines to go home. My instructions were to only eat race food, so I was ready for something that wasn't a bar at that point.

Only got rained on a little. About 243 miles total. I followed a combination of the PCH Rando Simi to Solana 400k and the ACA Pacific Coast Route. Shown is my full setup - my jersey and Dill Pickle bag held all I needed.

60+ miles north of Baltimore on Saturday. Weather could not have been more perfect!

I don't have much time for long rides these days. So my rides are mostly quick climbs just to get away from things. This past weekend - rode up Sierra under pretty windy condition. On way down, felt as if the wind got under my front wheel few time. Crazy.

I started leading rides and volunteering as a cycling coach for a new triathlon group a few months ago. Put on a hard one-hour hill climb workout each week called Hills to Fly Up (H.T.F.U.) and also lead a couple of long weekend rides each month. Since most of them are new/fairweather cyclists, this was the largest ride we've had this year. We did 15 minutes of teaching how to ride in a pace line and cycling etiquette before heading out in three groups. I led the most advanced group on a 48 miler with 2,600 ft gain. Also tacked on an additional 30 with 1,200 ft gain getting to/from the start. Best day I've had on the bike this year and I love being able to get others into the sport.

Did the ride on my Colnago Oval Master with Record 10. Love that bike!

Windy, windy, windy here on Saturday, so I switched gears and did a 29er ride to the top of the mountains overlooking Morro Bay. Just beautiful up there.
Sunday I rode about 30 miles of which 3 miles was along the SLO marathon course. I saw the carnage that was the last of the marathon runners hitting the 18-21 mile marks. There were some people having some tough times.

It looks like a lot of us had good rides this weekend!

The weather cooperated, so I decided to hit the trails down in Central Indiana at Brown County State Park. It was a beautiful day and the first significant ride on the Niner Air 9 I picked up a few months ago. I got in 3 hours on the dirt with a big smile on my face.

On Saturday I rode the Devil Mountain Double Century for the 6th year in a row. It was cold the entire day which is unusual. 39 degrees at the top of Mt. Diablo. The headwinds were vicious as well, slowing everyone down along the Patterson Pass area. I was an hour slower but limited my total stopped time to 57 minutes which is the least amount ever for me on a double. I made the mistake of bringing a low gear of 34x26 which resulted in a nice low cadence of 40 something clawing up the steep back side of Mt. Hamilton at mile 133 and Sierra road at mile 155. On the plus side, the Spyre mechanical disc brakes are amazing. Sooo much better than BB7's that I had before on the Volagi. No squeal and lever feel is amazing.

80 miles on Saturday out to Mountainville and back through Far Hills around Ravine Lake. A perfect day for a ride.

60 miles on Sunday. Great Swamp, Jockey Hollow up Calais and back through Far Hills.

As an aside does anyone want to meet up to ride in the Chatham/Madison area? I mean meet in that area and head out for the territories.

Sat was a loss here outside Boston with lots of cold rain.
Sunday was off-and-on rain, well actually, sprinkles. Not really rain. So, after doing stuff with wifey, I headed out late on the cross bike and got about 90 minutes in. Spent some time on trails which made the ride enjoyable.
Finally getting to the point where riding isn't drudgery. Tough start this year, but gotta start somewhere.

I was riding yesterday alongside a stream that joins the Susquehanna River and saw some big birds flying around just above the water...eagles. There was a bunch of them and I counted seven at one time. I had never seen more than two at time before. It turned out that the shad run was on in the Susquehanna and the fish had swum up Deer Creek. There was a 2' dam that the fish could get over, so they became food for the eagles. After the ride I took my wife to the same place and they were still there. The picture is of two immature eagles in the tree, but there were other mature eagles there with the white head and tail.

Very nice, kramnnim.

I got out for a couple rides over the weekend, both with issues.

I went for a pretty long ride Saturday, and blew out a tire before I could finish. I rode with a group for awhile before peeling off on my own.

Last night I had some time to kill after dropping my daughter off at Youth Group. It was partly cloudy, so I didn't bother bringing rain gear or fenders..
In ten miles it went from partly cloudy to thunderstorms. I took cover under a bridge for twenty minutes, waiting for a break in the weather. The return ride was cold, wet, and miserable. The rain stopped about 2 miles from town

I didn't even remember about it! Will consult the other half. We really wanted to do wells because we would be together. Blue hills would be 8am and then 3pm. Yikes.

Forgot to mention we rode the tandem cruiser around with the dog tied on Sunday eve. It was the best weather all weekend. Love that thing. Its a Burley rock n roll.

apparently it was the driest terrain to date, and the longest the course has gotten to be with last-minute weather always affecting overall distance. gorgeous day to be on a bike, let alone a cross bike, battling mud and a total lack of fitness, and my own demons, solo in the wind. beautiful.

was the first year i ever made it up the final climb, a 15-19% kicker after two and a half hours of slogging through mud pits and farmers' fields gone soft. some gravel. some pavement. lots of rail trail and full on singletrack and mud chutes. bike performed flawlessly, third year in a row. driest feet i've ever had. amazing day. next year, i'll return with some actual fitness for once!

Nice job getting it done on a tough DMD year. I was volunteering at the morgan territory RS. I did the staff ride the w/e before and you'll be happy to hear the conditions were just as nasty on the staff ride - howling head winds over patterson ..., climbing a 10% grade is one thing, doing it with a 30 MPH head wind is another. THen once you summit, instead of a screaming descent, you pedal like hell downhill and see maybe 18 MPH .., nasty stuff.
