So I just picked up this beautiful Serotta CIII from saab2000…Got it built up over the last few days and now I just need to decide on tape color.

The frame is painted in the Team Flanders color scheme and i have (3) Fizik tapes on hand:

1) Bright Red to match the frame red.
2) Silver to make the Serotta logos pop.
3) Dark Grey to match the frame grey.

What are your thoughts???

TIA

Nice bike.... :D

I think the lower gray one goes with the gray on the rear triangle.

PS: How's the headset?

Hey James…Headset seems fine…I've only just ridden it around the neighborhood, in my jeans.

I'll probably pop them out and give them a more thorough going over shortly.

Dark Grey is a decent match for the frame grey, and the cabling is Jagwire Dark Grey as well.

I'd do black or white.

1) Those were not on the options list. :P

2) White would be pretty harsh/clashing against the pearl/diamond white.

I'd do black or white.

I'm a fan of white tape but yeah, it does get dirty and it doesn't match. But the "New Rules" claim they don't have to match.

It think the gray would be nice but even black would be OK. I'm not a fan of colors like red for tape but that's just me.

As to the headset, the bearings seemed stiff the last few years I had the bike. I don't know what to suggest. Had I kept it I was probably going to replace the headset with a Campagnolo.

Here's a pic of the same bike, taken last week a few days before I took it apart and sent it to the new owner.

I'm trying to downsize my fleet and am hoping to save my pennies for a modern carbon bike (Giant TCR Advanced).

Wow, that looks like a hot build! We need a full picture. That looks right up my alley.

I want to sat the silver tape to match the decals (and mail me the grey) but I think the gray will balance things out more. I've been tempted to use that gray on my last two builds but played it safe with black both times.

I'd give that dark grey a go.

I still think saddle and tape should match.

Great looking bike, whatever tape you use.

Might be kinda flashy, but maybe try the grey from stem to hoods and red for the drops...

I think I'm too lazy/cheap for that option.

Really the red is destined for the custom frame project I am working on…just figured I would throw it out there.

The grey looks a little off next to the Deda DMP stem…

Leaning towards the silver…at this moment…could change by morning.

I agree, and didn't notice that at first. Other than the stem, the dark grey looks great, and how often do you see that? Good reason to try a different stem? :)

Me likey Deda Zero 100 stems…besides, I went out of my way to get the matchy-matchy seatpost!

The stem has lighter silver stripes running down it's length…so I'll run with that… :p

The silver will look great. Being a big fan of this tape, I recently came across the dark grey which I don't think I've seen anyone have before. Unusual, at least. Not going to work for me at the moment, but it got me thinking...

Someone had it on a dark green. It looked great.

I would go with the sliver to match the logos and the rear triangle.

Beautiful bike and I love the old scripted Colorado III on the top tube. My vote of the three choices would be the Dark Gray.

Love that frameset! I wish it was mine.

No comment on the bar tape other than skip the red. Matching is cool but anything works really.

Love that bike - where was I when Jim sold this one :)

black.

not on list but don't care.

Gray isn't close enough of a match and that would make the cockpit pretty dull.
White, is well, white. Boring.
Red, meh.

That bike needs more black.

Huge congrats!

Dark grey is how I would go.

White Handlebra® with red and gray stitching, obviously!

Seriously, a bike that nice deserves bar tape to match, both in color and quality. Ray's stuff is beyond good. You won't be disappointed.

I think I'd use the silver tape. There's already enough red on the frame--I'd highlight one of the other colors.

After sleeping on it, I ended up going with the Dark Grey.

The Deda DMP stem actually has dark grey lettering and a dark grey stripe, and looks pretty darn good together up close.

Silver was a close 2nd.

Red was dropped early in the game.

Thanx guys…
