I just bought this.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/400694451468?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

I've been getting more and more into mountain biking but so far have only ridden single speed (a Vicious Cycles Monolith purchased on the forum), and have never ridden suspension anything. Needless to say, I'm excited to build this one up.

As I anxiously wait for it to arrive this Friday, I'd welcome any advice as to how to set it up.

I'm thinking disc front and v-brake rear...

Does anybody know what year this frame might be? Or have Mr. Hargadon's contact email? I'm curious about the build sheet and geo info.

You stole that one. Good job! Early 2000's is a broad guess. I know Dean does a nice job at a reasonable price to weld on a disc plate and brace.

I don't know much about that particular bike, but to me that frame screams dropbar MTB! There are some great examples on MTBR: LINK.

Oh and I'd guess this guy could tell you about the bike: LINK. (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Hargadon-Cycles-Handcrafted-in-Colorado/109250402523569)

Have fun with the build!

Hah! I've actually wanted to do a drop-bar MTB for a while but the geo would have to be very weird for that to work with my body. I'll stick to shortish stem with risers :)

Thanks for finding that page... I don't have Facebook but he posted his email right there, luckily. I'll shoot him a message once I get the frame.

Thanks! I had to snag it...

Thanks for the Dean suggestion, also... that may be an option down the line. I really have no issues with V-brakes but am curious about disc for the front. I may go completely modern in the front with 15mm thru axle and disc, and retro rear with whatever cheap (9 speed?) parts I can find and XTR V-brakes which I love.

Budget will be a concern on this build, sadly.

I really shouldn't have bought anything at all this month but I couldn't pass it up.

There's a Marziochi (sp?) 26" suspension fork listed in the classifieds right now at a good price. $100 shipped, if I remember correctly. I'd think seriously about that if you're willing to go with v-brakes on the front.

Congrats on the buy.

Set-up depends on what you want to do with it. Can't go wrong with XTR v-brakes front and rear. The frame probably calls for an 80mm travel fork. A rigid carbon fork might look good on it.

I think Hardagon is on Facebook. He was building some fat bike frames that caught my eye a while ago.

Started riding mountain a little while ago and love ti mountain bikes!

Plus, that's a steal!

I would go with a modern fork and run a hydro disk in the front if I had that frame...but would also look hard at having a disc tab welded on if it was in the budget. Maybe go that route down the road after you have spent some time in the saddle to make sure you like it and it fits well.

I currently have a hardtail 26" wheel ti mountain bike (WTB Phoenix on loan from forum member bertleman) and I love it. My next major (cycling) purchase will probably be a new 2x10 SLX or XT group to replace the worn 9s group.

Pretty much :)

2x10 slx or xt. I would probably use vintage xt or xtr brake levers. Use a xt or xtr v brake out back and a trp cable/hydro front (whatever they call the MTB version)

Oh, and I would likely go with a steel fork.

Whatever happens, the OP will do a good looking build. Always does.

Thanks, Casey. Pretty much dead on except 1x10.

And I already have a steel rigid SS so this one is getting suspension.

1x sounds great. I won't hate a squishy front either.

I have Ti MTB frame I would also like to update w disc brake boss. Can you offer contact info? V brakes are ok but no match for disk brakes.

Good v brakes are very good. My only complaint with XTRs is that they are a bit too good at catching leaves.

The build is done!

Or, ready for its first ride tomorrow morning at least. Still waiting on a Wolftooth chainring which will go on SLX cranks. For now I borrowed the Race Face cranks from my single speed MTB.

More pictures tomorrow.

Such a tease! Can't wait to see what the build looks like.

For what it's worth, I've been very impressed with the power magura hydro rim brakes offer, if you're looking for a little retro uniqueness.

Alright, here's some pics. Nothing fancy... first ride and first crash have both been taken care of.

When I get some good pictures I'll start a thread in the image section. Here it is, all 23lbs 13oz:

Hot. Can't wait to see it with the proper cranks.

Is that an slx 10spd setup?

What are the wheels?

Yes, SLX shifter and RD.

Wheels are mismatched Hope/Mavic things... Ti-Glide 32H in the back and 28H Pro2 Evo in the front. Both disc compatible.

Ha, yeah. That would be sweet but I'm running mechanical brakes and disc front.
