View Full Version : Wide(r) tires on standard rims

I'm buying tires for my race wheels and am thinking of stepping up a size. The wheels are Reynolds 32s (tubular), which are 21mm wide. I have been racing on Vittoria SC 23mm the last couple years, and was thinking of going up to 25mm. I'm not looking for more comfort (though that would be a plus) as much as I am cornering grip.

On a fairly standard-width rim, has anyone seen a downside to sizing up?

No problem at all. Don't forget people glue up cyclocross tires to rims that width.

You get more grip and more comfort but less aerodynamics. For instance, Zipp does it's tests with 21mm tires.
