A victory for Gilbert… hopefully a springboard to success over the next couple of weeks. Would love to see a return to his form of 2011.

Here's a better video to show how Gilbert played it (last 2km). I like how low key french announcers are, they let the action dictate not hype it as much as english speaking announcers. http://www.rtbf.be/video/embed?id=1918772&autoplay=1

I am pleased to see him win and also surprised no one protested him moving 2/3 of the way across the road.

That strikes me as well every time I listen to races on the belgian french TV. But under the laidback attitude hide cycling experts. Those announcers know the sport very very well! Thanks for sharing the video Bob.

It was a happy day after I stumbled on three hours of coverage on Bein network today.

Just by the way, in the post-race interview immediately after the race in the changing room on French TV, Mathews was asked about it and was very graceful. Said basically, not at all, he was beaten straight up in a fair sprint and it was a privilege to be on the podium with a man of Gilbert's stature (paraphrased). Very relaxed and laid back.

Phil is looking leaner than last season and it seems like he's got his fire back. It's good to see him on form again.

Soloing away up the Cauberg… ah, sure brings back the Spring of 2011, doesn't it?
