Thoughts of why it sold for so much $$$??? (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Serotta-head-tube-badge-/251502242215)

I actually have a brand new one, but the head badge on my Ottrott is pitted. Don't know what to do!!!

Jeez. I just had my Serotta repainted, and went for a new head badge, so I gave my old one to my wrench because he said he collected them. Would have sat in a drawer, anyway.

Maybe I'll have Antiques Roadshow on in ten years and watching his reaction as somebody tells him it's worth 200 bucks. Damn.

I was trying to track down one of those headbades, wouldnt pay that much though... was hoping there might be some out there, but this leads me to believe they'll be tough to track down...

If you need a new headbadge for a repaint you will pay up to to get one. I do think there will be a few more on the market now that that price was set.
If any Forum member needs a "Founder's Edition" badge for their Ottrott please contact me. I have one and am looking to put a deposit down on a new house.

Interesting. When I had my Legend built in '03 I went for
the decal on the HT because I thought the sharp edges on the
badge were lame.

3D printing should be a cheap option.

3D printing that would look like hell, unless you happen to have access to a ProJet, in which case it would cost about the same as the eBay one.

Frenzied bidding. Caught in moment

Had friend bid it up because they have a few of these going to try and maximize it:)

This, I believe...but also the fact that they don't exist any longer. If you need one ( or, if more than one person needs one) it's going to drive the price waaaaay up!

How much would it cost to have a run of these manufactured? I am sure there are enough folks here that would go in on a group buy.

crowd funded white label frame building? "level top tube", "28 mm tires", "short reach brake", "threaded bb shell", et.c....

I've been looking for one for years. I like the retro, solid look of the metal headbadge. And just as a matter of personal taste, I think the plain white S sticker looks really cheap. Certainly not up to the standard of the rest of the frame.

I'd buy two. One for the wife and one for me.

I wonder if we could contact one of the former Serotta employees to find out where they had these produced. They may still have the template for making these.

Knowing Ben, they probably made them in-house.

a few years ago I posted here that I was considering finding an alternative headbadge for my Legend Ti and a kind member here sent me one! Thanks again spamjoshua!

Projet wouldn't print it right. If you made a badge out of a cheaper medal 3d printing it wouldn't be that much...

Just because the company is in bankruptcy, it doesn't mean all the intellectual property (including trademarks and graphic designs) are in public domain. Producing Serotta head badges may run you afoul of the owners or trustees.

I doubt that Brian Case or the trustee's are going to pay a lawyer to tell a group of Serotta Owners to stop making some head badges for their bikes.

FWIW, head badges for just about any model of bike fetch good prices on eBay. Apparently they are collectibles.

Priced out of the last one (ended north of $120 again), but then I found what I consider a better alternative. Not sure what this says about me (actually I'm pretty sure what this says about me) ...

The seller probably has hundreds of those headbadges. From the location, definitely someone close to the factory, probably a former employee (particularly based on the other items for sale).

That batch of speculation contains two "probably"s. The metal stickers were not so deeply inventoried as hundreds, so the likelihood of that level of availability is, I think, pretty low. I don't know how many are still around. The amount of cut-rate product that was sold both throughout the years and currently dwarfs what this EBay seller is doing anyway. I can tell you that such happenings were formerly, as an employee, disappointing. I suppose that if I'd ever ordered a frame and vacillated on adding the metal sticker or not, and then didn't, then I'd be intrigued by the "last chance" to get one now, too.
