OK

I could not resist bidding on a size 56 Fondo with F3 fork that the Pros Closet was selling on Ebay, the geometry was very close to a Serotta Classique Ti 2010 model that I have. Well I won the auction and it arrived today. It was built up and ridden but looks perfect. I think $1050.00 for a super nice Ti frame/fork is unbelievable.

Now the question, the F3 fork is a 10.5 stiffness I weigh 155#, the F3 on my Classique is a 6.5 and is plenty stiff. I have a like new S3 6.5 stiffness spare fork. All are 43 rake, is it useless to try the 10.5, has anyone ridden both.

The F3 looks brand new with a 250mm steerer.

The 10.5 F3 weighs 500g the 6.5 S3 weighs 410g with basically the same length steerer, both weights include the expander plug.

I wanted another Ti bike to leave at work.

Thanks,
Jeff

My 64 Legend has an F3. I weight about 228.
I find my (10.5) F3 light and super comfortable.

it would be an interesting experiment to see if you can tell the difference between a 6.5 and 10.5 fork.
you'd have to somehow blind yourself to which fork you are using.

My concours was built with a 6.5 too I think (I'd have to look for the build sheet, this was a while ago) and I was around 175 at the time.

You'd think 10.5 would be super ultra stiff at 155.

So you won that one... I was in it until the end, but happened to pick up a complete Concours Ti with 10 speed Record for too good a deal to pass up and bowed out of the bidding on the Fondo. I think you got a pretty good deal there. Let me know if that fork turns out to be too stiff for you :)

if you were ordering the bike new from serotta there is no way they would put you on the 10.5 at 155#s

maybe a 8.5 (I had a 8.5 on my ottrott, 170#s , no issues, felt great) but certainly not a 10.5

I would just use the S3 6.5 and then sell the 10.5 to some of the big guys here.

or, if you do get tempted just make sure you dont chop it down. lots of big guys are riding 58cm+ bikes, so you'd want to make sure you could unload it to someone with say a 18cm HT, 3cm king, 3cm spacers, 4cm stem. hey, that's 28cm right there....

Hah! That frame was mine for about 3 seconds...until your higher/earlier bid beat me! Good for you. The only reason I didn't bid much higher is that in my heart of hearts I'm holding out for a level top tube. Dunno why, it's just an aesthetics thing for me. I also got beat out a couple of weeks ago on an older Legend Ti- level top tube...just 'cuz I was too timid to really go for it. Ah, regrets...

I'd love to see pictures of the final build. Best of luck with your bike!
