I guess we can say that 650b/27.5 bikes have gone mainstream.

Love this quote, "That blade-of-grass-length difference is dividing the best minds and loudest voices in mountain biking"...

"Mountain bikes with 29-inch wheels—so-called 29ers—have been the standard for 15 years."

Yeah, lots of misinfo in that article, but not terrible given their average reader.
You should read the comments section for a real chuckle...

" 'Bicycles are a fashion [driven] industry' he [Pacenti] said."

What I actually said. I stand by it...

I suspect they misquoted you because it sounds more controversial. I agree more with your actual words -- there's more to the industry than just fashion, but fashion does seem to drive it this way and that.

I was surprised to read that too... might have been a Joe Breeze quote??? They didn't mention (or ask) me about that at all.

Comments are pretty funny:

"The writer is wrong several times on the 27.5 and 29 inch tires as noted above. Maybe mixed up his notes or was duped by a hipster."

"
But bikes with the smaller, 27.5-inch wheel accelerate more quickly, negotiate sharp turns more gracefully and are a better fit for petite riders and those with shorter legs. "From a global perspective, there are far more people in the world that fit more comfortably on 27.5-inch wheels than 29s," said Kirk Pacenti, who pioneered the first 27.5-inch mountain-bike wheel about 10 years ago.
"

Substitute 26 for 27.5 in the above and it still reads right.

If you're into that sort of thing... :p

I kid, I kid! ;)

Fwiw, the journalist was a really, really nice guy who wanted to do a good job. Though he readily admitted he was not a cyclist and knew very little about bikes.
