friend of a friend is looking for a bike. he is 6 foot 6. is anyone making big bikes for people like this anymore? cannondale used to always make a couple big models but it looks like no more. He is looking for a new bike, sort of regular road racer style (no steel) ultegra level. I looked at specialized and trek and cannondale but no luck, Zinn makes some big bikes but they are long crank crazy.

i think he needs a 65 or 66 with a 61ish top tube.

is anyone making something like this?

Trek used to make the Madone in a 64 and with the H2 fit would fit. Not sure if they still make this size. IIRC it was only certain models that this size was offered.

FWIW, I'm 6'6" and a 63cm Cannondale works. ~85cm saddle height, ~61cm saddle to center of bar reach with a 120 stem.

A 64cm Specialized Roubaix would fit, too.

Well, if John won't say it, I'll say it for him.

Buy his bike!

Co-Motion makes their aluminum "Ristretto" in a 64cm (61cm TT):

But at $2000 for an aluminum frame/fork, he might as well go custom. Tsunami (http://tsunamibikes.com/wordpress1/) perhaps? Or maybe Land Shark?

Zinn specializes in this and will spec a shorter crank.

I have a 66cm caad3 for sale in the classifieds, cheap!

I know he wants a road bike, but that Engin is awesome and a great deal. If it was made for a 6footer, I wouldn't be able to resist.

There is a giant guy who rides a Cervelos in my neighbourhood, but that's not a cheap item...

I built up a 63cm Mercier for a 6' 7" buddy of mine. Fits him quite nicely and the stout aluminum frame was a good choice for a big stout man. The hardest part was sourcing a suitable set of wheels. Found some DT Swiss wheels that have worked out well.

Gunnar does a great job and probably the best value. Zinn for sure.

Depends on his actual measurements.. but a 63cm supersix/caad would be my recommendation for some trial fitting.

There are also two very nice Serotta TI's on the forum currently for sale in the 64cm size range that would likely work out perfectly...

Sure .... My Bedford is a 65 Seat Tube with a 2 deg slope.
So it's a 66 up front ... Top Tube is about 60.

Small frames are more of a challenge then the bigger ones.

Kelly substituted a down tube for the seat tube, due to the frame size.
He could not locate a seat tube he liked.
This precipitated some custom fabrication.

Tube selection is important to tailor the ride to the riders specifications.

Kelly builds in all materials, except full carbon.

Any experienced CUSTOM builder should do you good. I would suggest
your friend first visit an experienced fitter first.

If you are interested in Ti .... well right here you have Firefly and Kelly.

Too bad he's looking specifically for a new bike. It seems there have been a few very large bikes that have gone through here or ebay lately. While it doesn't sound like your friend is after a fixed gear, this is one of the cooler ones I've seen lately:

That bike used to be mine and is a great bike.
