I'll be off to Austin next week for work. Any recommended shops to hit?
I'll probably be staying at 12536 North IH35

There are alot to choose from.
And it really depends on what you're into (mtb, road, track...)

Mellow Johnny's would probably be a good place to start.

I was just there last weekend! Mellow Johnny's was cool. Also, the B-cycle bike share system was a really fun way of getting around downtown.

I'm more into the road scene.

I'm more into the road scene.

For road stuff, I would check out the following:

-Mellow Johnny's (as already mentioned)
-Bicycle Sport Shop (mainly Trek/Spec)
-Nelo's
-Fast Folks
-Austin Bikes
-Jack and Adams and Austin Tri-Cyclist (mostly Tri)
-The Peddler (not focused primarily on road, but a great shop w/good people)

There are quite a few others, but these are the ones that immediately came to mind.

I visit Austin periodically and would recommend exactly those mentioned above by Texbike and Nick Crumpton.

For barbecue, forget about Franklin's. Go to La Barbecue instead. There's a cool little cowboy boot store across the way and down a block (TX Custom Boots). Also, Teo's gelatto (and coffee) is among the best in the USA.

Want BBQ? Get serious and make the drive to Smitty's in Lockhart. If that's too far, go to the original Salt Lick in Dripping Springs. Louis Mueller's in Tyler (or Taylor) is ok too.

Haven't done Franklins, but hear da bomb.
