I'm looking at medium reach brakes in Black, anyone have feedback on the TRP's?

Thanks

Might want to look at the Tektro R539 pretty sure there isn't that much of a difference (actually a little lighter). I have a set on my Salsa Casseroll, I run a 700x35 with no problems at all!!! You can't beat them for the price of the brakes.

Not a lot of reviews out there yet, but there has been some discussion across the hall (http://www.velocipedesalon.com/forum/f2/nice-mid-reach-brakes-33655.html). They appear to be a good brake. A couple other threads over there as well, but they had little content of substance and tended to wander.

Thanks for that, I had read a few of those threads but I missed the last bit about VO offering the Grand Crus in black soon. Like you said, I found a number of threads in different places but i've seen/read very little feedback.

Thanks for the Tektro input as well. I've ridden those a few times and they are a great brake at that price range.

I've been using them for a couple of months now, and they work fine. I wouldn't say that they are any better or worse than the VO's that were on the bike previously, but they are forged, which makes christian happy. They do not open quite as wide as the VO's, if that matters.

I have silver VO's on my Hampsten. They work very well. I would imagine the black brakes work just as well, though they might be faster.

Net: +1 Seem like a winner to me!

I'm using them on my MAX bike and they work great - much stiffer than the low-end Tektros and comparable to the Velo-Orange calipers.

AND I asked Tektro/TRP to make these about two-three years ago and they may have actually listened. So I've got that going for me, which is nice.

I have them, and I like them. Like others have said, the Q/R doesn't open quite as wide as the Velo-Orange calipers. Some photos:

Whichever brake you decide on, consider changing the pads to something like Shimano Dura-Ace or Swiss Stop BXP.

Again, thanks, the advice is appreciated. I figured I should replace pads, do you have a preference between the two Gravelbike? They are basically the same price.

I use them both. The Swiss Stop BXPs feel a little softer, and have more modulation, IMO.

Sorry, I meant between the two brakes.

Sorry, I meant between the two brakes.

They're very similar in feel. I prefer the barrel adjuster on the RG957s (it can be operated with one hand), but the Velo-Orange calipers are slightly stiffer.
