I know in past years this has usually happened. Any plans afoot for one this year? If not, anybody interested in getting together Friday evening someplace the locals would recommend?

Give me a ring and we can coordinate something. Not aware of anything going on at the moment, so we might as well start something...

The best ice cream place in town isn't too far from the convention center. Run by a Korean couple that makes reeeeeedonkulous stuff.

. . . with Pa and Ma MTB Rider. Anybody else interested?

So this is Korean food for dinner ,then ice cream? Sounds, uh, interesting . . .

Also, do you know anything more about the Boyd Wheels ride on Saturday? I sent him an email tonight and hope to get more info.

Oh no, they're just the ice cream shop. They don't do anything else.

Here's the info on Boyd's ride from across the hall, leaves early from the convention center. Fairly typical airport loop:

Saturday and Sunday also leave at 7:15am and go for an hour and a half. Both days will have the same route and there is an early turn back option to come straight back in on West Blvd instead of heading down Steele Creek after the airport. Here is that route: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/4104577

. . . 30 miles. In the other thread somebody had posted one that is 65 miles. A bit much for me this early in the season. I want to still be able to walk when I get into the show!

Yeah, Morrow Mtn's a bit of a slog. And a bit of a drive to get to the start. Kind of cuts the day in half.

So if I come down for one day, which day should it be?

My plans at this point are to come down on Friday or Saturday. I'm thinking there will be fewer people on the interstates and the downtown parking will be easier on Saturday. It might be interesting to see how many people are attending on Friday and/or Saturday and perhaps plan a get together for both nights?

Not trying to change things to suit me, but it would be nice to know who plans to attend on which day as it would be fun to meet as many Paceliners as possible.

Perhaps I should start another thread?

. . . do the show all afternoon, then dinner that evening. I figure if there are freebies or chi-chi's for sale best to get first crack at them Friday.

There's a party on the schedule . . .

http://2014.handmadebicycleshow.com/nahbs/nahbs-local-social/

. . . but it's listed as a "frame builder's" party and I'm not sure it's open to Joe Schmoe's like me. The Saturday evening party looks good. I'm probably going to get the Friday-Saturday ticket.

Thanks for the link to the calendar Dave...somehow I'd missed that page. I emailed Uptown Cycles in regards to the frame builders party and asked if it was by invitation only and will let you know their response.

We will be driving down on Thursday. Friday or Saturday night for dinner would be fine with us.

The Spoke Easy in South End is having an unofficial party on Saturday night. It'll be outstanding if their previous parties are any barometer. Something to consider too.

Flying down on Wed., staying downtown and am not renting a car. If the dining spot or the rendezvous point is downtown then I'd like to participate.

Queen City Q is a few blocks from the convention center and hotels, and does fantastic barbecue.

Totally walkable for those that are inclined.

I wish I could join you guys, I already have a dinner commitment on Friday night with an old friend.

Definitely stop by the Ellis booth and say hi at the show, always nice to put a face with a screen name!

Cheers,
Dave

Yes. Spoke Easy rules. I am too old to ride fast and they are down to earth in there. I second your recommendation on the Elizabeth Creamery.

I'll try to make it where ever.
But I'm nursing my wife post surgery.
But should be able to slip away to sink a few pints.

They relocated around the corner I thought. Did that not happen?

I think they are planning to open around the corner, but as far as I know, haven't yet...

Guess we'll have to stick with beer!

Show Friday ends at 6. You think make it 7 so people might have time to freshen up? Does this place have a bar? We could always just say arrive anytime after 6 and we'll actually get the table at 7 . . .

Sounds like so far we have:

Yup, large bar with a lot of local brews on tap. It's right near Time Warner arena, and is a pretty big hangout spot pre- and post-game for Bobcats/Hornets games.

Right near the train too in case someone wants to ride that over.

I am currently in short term residence at the Hilton Center City. If you gentlemen will be dining at the Queen City Q, count me in, it is just around the corner from here.

Update here folks. I've got us a table tomorrow night at 7:15 at Queen City Q. Given the maybes on the list I've got us a table for 8, but let them know that number might move up or down by a seat or two.

Almost forgot, reservation is under Joe, and I'll be there with my Paceline trainer from Cima Coppi. Should be easy enough to spot.

Also posted it up on the Paceline FB page to give folks another way to check in.

Just give me a shout. I'm hoping to sneak away from the office at lunch time to go take a look at stuff.

Was working set-up yesterday, and there is some supremely cool stuff there. Mr Wages has a blue road bike I had to walk away from for fear of drooling too much into the carpet.

Mr. Wages's wares are always drool-worthy. I remember a gorgeous copper-painted steel bike from a few years ago--the Richmond show. This was before copper became a common color for bikes and cars!

Many thanks and much appreciation to both BBD for driving this meeting & dinner together and to FlashUNC for his local knowledge in selecting an excellent venue.

It was a pleasure to meet you gentlemen along with Pa & Ma MtbRider and R2D2. Doing things like this makes the world seem a smaller place.
