View Full Version : Going 11s (Sram): just need new shifters?

I'd like to move my wife's bike to 11s to simplify wheel sharing (i.e., I'm tired of her deciding 5 minutes before we leave that she wants to ride my wheels, forcing me to hunt down those damn 1.8mm spacers and swap cassettes around). As I understand it the cable pull is the same on the new 11s system. That should mean that her existing FD/RD will work with some limit screw adjustments, provided I have the new shifters.

Someone tell me if I'm wrong on this.

You are not wrong. Change of chain also needed. Ideally chain rings and FD (yaw for clearance/performance), but depends.

I've heard that old derailleurs work, but I haven't tried it myself. I recently switched to 11sp but just wanted to get it up and running so I didn't take the time to see if the old RDs worked. You might really only need just the right shifter.
