View Full Version : Is this a Gios? (Calling vintage experts)

I could use a restoration project during the cold boring evenings so I found this poor burger (warning large file) : https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/e5prc2if8ysvkr5/Photo%208-8-2013%2C%2010%2026%2041%20AM.jpg?dl=1&token_hash=AAH3EliJt6APvEfeucodGyEKGOrirJN3iCREM4r jK1ggeA

As you can see it has been "artistically repainted" :D but I would bring it back to its previous glory state.

That frame is being sold as a vintage Gios. The fork is Gios for sure, the seat stay caps look Gios as well but I don't know much more.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

More pics. I was trying to be fancy and hide the seller's website but the hell with it.

I feel like it was photographed in a swimming pool.

Make him an offer!

Take a look at the photo of the seat tube cluster (it is a huge image, I edited it out of my post) and compare the workmanship to this Gios.

Seat cluster and drilled drop-outs look right. Wish there were more photos.

It has the interlocking "Gt" insignia cast into the fork crown. Can't see the scalloped profile of the seatstay from the camera angle but the pointed end shape looks correct. Looks legit.

Here's a resized photo of the seat cluster. The seatstay caps are the same. There are some slight differences to the lug around the cut-out and the shape of the nubs that retain the binder bolt are slightly different. Also, the point isn't thinned out as much at the base...

Seems similar enough and I'd bank on RS' word on this one.

Looks legit to me.

I think it's a Gios SR as well. I had a Professional, and it had slightly shorter seat stay caps but the same shaping approach. Would love to see the BB shell though.

I thought it looked close as well. I debated the same frame for my wife. If she rode more, I would pursue it. I wanted to give it traditional style paint but in a color that wasn't offered.
