after being bombarded with "polar vortex" air for weeks, mid 50's and sunny this weekend. anyone else finally get out in the northeast after days and days of oppression by cold?

Rode through enough wet stuff on a big group ride it was like swimming in nasty grit soup. I am going to get my ass handed to me in Bethel next weekend. I wasn't even going to race this year, but the team sent me kit...

This is why God invented skiing.

Nice to get out with a couple friends two days in a row! The weather folks say it's gonna get cold again here in Central NY, so the skis will remain handy by the back door.

It was low 50s yesterday (Saturday) in Cincinnati so I was out solo doing 57 miles with about 3,000 feet of climbing. It was sunny but the wind was chilling so it felt like in upper 30s. Had a severe cramp on the way in but overall was pleased with the performance for the third ride of the year. Sorry didn't take any picture to post. Unless I am out doing a century (weekly in warmer months) I usually do not stop so taking a picture of my ride is not always on my mind. Cheers!

One more vortex on the way! Nice pedals, AS. Are those the Team Saturn DA's?

Nice ride on Saturday breaking in the latest build... then home sick with a cold all day today. Still, beats the trainer.

It rained all weekend in the PNW, except for the few hours of snow yesterday. I got out for a couple hours tonight in a downpour. Still waiting for my toes to thaw out.

I stopped under this bridge hoping for a break in the weather..

What a great weekend.

I hope all of your riding pals have more courtesy than mine: I was the only one in the group with fenders.

Needless to say, I was pulling most of the day.

Great riding both days. I saw 8 cyclists out Saturday, which is not bad for where I was riding.
Must be the lack of sun because Sunday the count was zero. Was actually better riding - only a couple of degrees colder but no wind & the roads were dry.

Yes, that's a tree there to the right. Best we can do here.
But it's 65 degrees. Makes up for some of it.

THAT was from this weekend? Just wheyah, I'd like to know... somewhat vague responses are acceptable.

I didn't want to drive 60-90 minutes to ski crusty groomers. On Sunday I went for 30 miles in the sunshine, mid-40s, little wind, on mostly dry roads: The February Ride. :)

Now we're getting somewhere.

Hah! Here is how it's done:

"This? Oh, it's just a little 2000' vertical run, deep in the Kingdom/Mad River Valley/Breadloaf wilderness, protected from sun, wind, and prying eyes." :bike:

I love skiing, but I'm glad that roads are on maps.

We got buried in snow in Massachusetts the past month. I still have 6' piles of snow surrounding my driveway but we had about 3 days of 50 degree weather. I had to walk the bike to the end of the driveway (totally iced over) but the roads were fine.

I went out Saturday and did 21 miles in the sun.. felt kind of crappy and with so much water in the road (inches) my fenders weren't enough. My feet froze. Still fun.

Sunday pretty much dressed the same but put on booties and had just about a perfect ride even though it was cloudy. Did 25. Out of shape but feeling way better after realizing my saddle had slipped in the rails.. fixed it before the ride and felt a lot better.

Loving having fenders.. my current bike is way slower than my old one (and I'm riding 700x35 tires) was but it is a hell of a lot more fun when the weather is sub-optimal.

I doubt it was from the weekend, left Killington on friday and everything on the hill was coated in nasty ice

I rode 30 on Sat and 20 on Sunday on my new cross bike. A bit wet from the melt and the cross tires helped with potholes. It was so warm on Sunday that I wore a short sleeve base layer, wind shell and knickers.
