Looks like a good idea.
Check the test ride by Bike Snob here (http://bikesnobnyc.blogspot.com/2014/02/bsnyc-friday-no-quiz-and-instead-half.html)

"In short, the Fly6 is a camera you mount on your seatpost in case someone decides to run you over from behind with a steamroller and you need evidence so the police can ignore it. (Assuming the Fly6 can survive being run over by a steamroller, which is still a big fat question mark.) I first mentioned the Fly6 almost two weeks ago, and since then the inventors have funded their Kickstarter almost twice over, during which time I was too lazy to set the thing up. Now, they probably don't even care what I think since they're on a private plane to the Caribbean, but I needed an excuse to ride, and so set it up I did.

Looked at this a few days ago, wouldn't be as useful here where there are no front license plates... :(

We need some kind of force field barrier.

I would buy this in a second. And a front flasher with a camera too.

I think it is a great idea. And even in states without front plates, people will change their behavior if they know they are being recorded.

Maybe, all the tru-TV caught on camera shows indicates people are stupid in public even when they know they are recorded.

I have a Cerevellum Hindsight 35.

http://www.cerevellum.com/hindsight.aspx

The camera resoultion of the Fly6 seems much clearer. Just hope the Fly 6 has better reliability than the Hindsight which has not been without problems.

The Fly6 camera appears to be based around the Mini DV camera available on Amazon and eBay for $10 http://smile.amazon.com/Mini-Camcorder-Video-Digital-Camera/dp/B0032HOH0W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1393258959&sr=8-1&keywords=mini+dv+camera So if you can do without the integrated taillight then you could easily mount this camera to your seatpost today. I have one and it's a decent camera for the very low price.

Thanks for the link. I'd prefer to keep my camera separate from my flasher anyway. The Amazon reviews are pretty awful, though for 10 bucks I might just throw it in with my next Amazon purchase. Mostly though I'm wary of wasting a couple hours of my life trying to get it play nice with my computer. Was yours trouble free and idiot proof, or did you have do fiddle with things to get it work? I'm just want a cheap, light camera for monitoring things that is simple, not something to post epic moves on Vimeo.

I think it is fine idea too, but if I am coming up behind a rider with this on their bike, how do I know it is anything more than a tail light?

I attached the manual if you want more information.

True that, but I guess the hope is that eventually many motorists would come to expect cyclists to have cameras and adjust their behaviors accordingly. The stealth nature of these might be a good thing because motorists would never know for sure if they were being recorded. Sort of like the deterrent effect of hidden speed traps.
