Is there anyway to test whether the battery is close to being finished on one of these units? I just bought a pack of 2 new batteries, since I needed to replace the HRM battery. Wondering if I should just put the other battery into the GSC-10 and call it a day, or hang on to the battery until it dies.

Over four years on mine. Have yet to change the battery.

They're fine until they aren't. Use the one in the sensor until it dies (almost certainly while you're out riding.) Keep a spare battery, and a nickel, in your saddle bag and swap the old one out first chance you get.

And make sure to keep the magnet on the crank away from the sensor when the bike is stored.

Batteries and AZ Summers do not mix well.

Yeah, I think mine have been lasting 500+ hours.
