I'm sure some of you love a good beer after (or before/during) a ride! (And beers in the shower are the best.) Thought I'd share my latest food science video on the science of beer (http://blogs.kqed.org/science/video/science-of-beer-tapping-the-power-of-brewers-yeast/)!

And if you're in the Bay Area, visit Freewheel Brewery (http://blogs.kqed.org/bayareabites/2014/02/11/a-nod-to-british-beer-traditions-freewheel-brewing-company/) (their logo is a dog on a bike!) They have awesome English-style beer.

Shots of bourbon are pretty good, too - especially after a rainy ride. :)

Had a glass of Ardberg single malt last night, neat. Perfect after a subzero day and an hour on the mouse wheel.

Mmmm...this is one thing I keep trying to talk my husband into doing, especially since he drinks soooo much beer!

I've known a couple folks who home brew. Do it.

And R2D2 knows his stuff to boot.

Maybe I'll get him a homebrewing kit for his birthday as added motivation...

I brewed my first batch of beer a few months ago. My friends who tried it were astonished at how good it turned out (blonde ale, pretty standard beginner stuff). Even my father-in-law, who was convinced he was going to end up with botulism, had to admit it was good. It really was pretty dang good. I don't attribute any skill, other than being able to follow directions, as to how it turned out. The kits places like morebeer sell are pretty foolproof. The one thing I was super careful about was keeping everything sanitary. My friend liked my beer so much he bought the ingredients for another batch that he wants to brew with me. I'm going to do an IPA at the same time. Fun stuff!
