In order, these have caught my attention:

Radio Shack
Chevy (cancer awareness tie-in)
Go-Daddy

Overall, they seem pretty meh to me but I did like the Radio Shack one. I mean seriously, a Maserati commercial was in the first break?

It used to be (according to my memory) that you wouldn't see TV and Movie promos until the second half.

Oh well, if they sold the spots, so be it.

Not sure if it is being shown, but the bud light commercial with Arnold S. was great!

The Radio Shack cameos (not sure if it's really a cameo if you're playing yourself) were fun, but the ad itself was just ok. Colbert was ok. Mostly hmmmmm.

I thought Radio Shack was a winner because it was funny AND effective at delivering its message. You don't always get that.

I'm partial to Audi's Doberhuahua commercial because I like Dobermans and Audis, but as my wife said about the mutt at the end, "Isn't THAT a compromise?" (the point of the ad being no compromises by buying the A3). So that one was watchable, but not effective.

Have no idea who BD's law firm is, BUT, if you favorite any one of his videos on youtube, it will be blocked within hours/days/short months. I don't begrudge this action. Just saying his contemporary behavior belies the past.

I totally agree with your one and two. Don't have a third yet.

Radio Shack was, as 1centaur said, funny and effective.

Bob Dylan Chrysler spot was nicely done, with Dylan surprisingly good as voiceover and he delivered his last line on camera really well for a non-actor. That said, how effective at selling cars?

Lastly, call me a sap but the Cheerio spot early on was sweet.

Did they show the Doritos Commerical with the finger washer? I may have missed it since the game was such a dog. Anyway, my son showed me it on YouTube and it was so frickin funny. If you didn't see it you gotta search it out.

Found it: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ugo7Y2lRsxc&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dugo7Y2lRsxc

I thought advertising was the reason all pro level sports exist at that level.

The fact that people are discussing the advertising rather than the game can be interpreted many different ways, by just as many people, to mean whatever they want.

Surprised no one mentioned the Tebow ads. I thought the second one was pretty cool. Top 3 on my list, although I bailed as soon as Harvin returned the opening kickoff of the 2nd half for a TD.

Salici. Made from sport.
Aspire Academy.
Turkish airlines.

If you watch European pro cycling, even these lame superbowl commercials are about 10000 times better than the Eurosport commercial brakes.

BUT I did like the Puppy Bud commercial. But mostly, considering the hype that goes into the commercials for the Super Bowl I thought they were, for the most part, "meh".

Tivo is announcing special superbowl mode for next year,
All commercial will be recorded, game play will be recorded at 3x speed.

Watched the game sound off, commercials sound on.
I was wishing Dandy Don Meredith was there to sing turn off the lights the partys over after the 2nd half kick return td.

My votes are Cherrios, Colbert/Nuts, Radio Shack.

The Dylan/Chrysler was too derivative of Eastwood/Chrysler.

No love for the early Chevy truck ad where he's haulin' the bull to a rendevoux with the girls? Soundtrack was Hot Chocolate's "believe in miracles, you sexy thing" which the wife identified from The Full Monty.

Thanks to that ad, I forgive Chevy that other (pre SB) ad mocking kale, tofu etc. in favor of BBQ. (FYI, there's room for all that in my truck, GM!)

It was hard to believe the Maser commercial in the early ad break. And did Tebow sign up Bob Uecker's media strategist?

Why were you guys watching the Super Bowl? Turner Classic Movies was showing 12 Angry Men followed by The Lost Weekend. There is more substantial content in 30 seconds of either one of those films than in every Super Bowl rolled together.

As a whole, the SB ads were a pretty sorry lot. Most of them were trying way too hard to be artsy or funny, mosttly without success to my jaundiced eye, with the sponsor's name and logo tacked on at the end as an afterthought. If it were my company's money on the linem I'd be very unhappy with the vast amjority of them.

You want artsy? Apple's "1984" still sets the standard for that, and it is still remembered thirty years later.

You want funny? The classic Alka-Seltzer ads from the 70s were clever, funny as hell, put the brand front and center, and, again, are still remembered decades later. (Yes, I know these were not SB commercials, but I'm on a rant and making a point here.)

Nothing in this year's crop was evenin the same time zone as these classics. Which I suppose is appropriate, considering how close the game was . . . .

I think Louie the Lizard's term is almost up and he should be getting out of the slammer soon.

I guess that's my way if saying those Budweiser ads were pretty cool. Kind of a shame he "offed" the frogs.

It would be a fun ad series to resurrect.

This isn't a political comment, but some folks believe diversity is somehow un-American. How sad.

There is no point in debating it, but it's not about diversity, it's about language. There is a difference. It would be incorrect to view those who want English to be the official language as against having people of different ethnicities in the country.

Kirk007
02-04-2014, 12:54 PM
So its that what ignited the Fox news commentators and others objections - an English as the official language thing? I haven't read the commentary just saw that there was some dust up.

My liberal mind never would have made that connection having watched the commercial; I thought it was quite well done and all about the diversity of America the Beautiful.
