So I snagged an IF Steel Deluxe locally off the forum recently and started ordering things! I read some very positive reviews of Shimano SLX 2x10 and decided to go with that. Merlin Cycles had (has probably) a great deal on it and threw in the M545 pedals for $0.10 cheaper with the group. But I'll get to those.

Here the frame is, just put my SID Ti Race fork on it.

I ordered the group on a Saturday night, and it arrived on the following Wednesday from the UK! That's impressive for free shipping.

And this is as far as I've gotten.

I'm headed to the LBS tomorrow so they can shorten the hydro lines and run them. I still need to purchase wheels (a forumite is coming back from vacation on Monday) and there's still about 4 inches of snow in my driveway, so my road bike (seen in the background) hasn't been out since a full rebuild with 7800 downtube shifting recently. I've been bopping around on a 14" Specialized Rockhopped (rigid) that I rode when I was about 12 years old. Canti brakes and snow tires. What a blast.

I'm totally psyched to get riding!

Also I tried out the M545 pedals today. They weigh about six metric tons with solid metal platforms, they are hard to clip into (can't find the spot to clip it) and aren't even grippy on regular street shoes. Definitely coming off in favor of my old and busted XTR pedals. One side of each of those has been destroyed and I still like them better.

I'm not in love with the bottle cages. I'm thinking matching colors to the tubes.

Looks really nice. SLX is great...esp the brakes. The Mtb tech trickles down at such a fast rate that current SLX is like 2011 XT. And Shimano always makes the best brakes.

Very nice! I rode my 26er yesterday and it is a great ride.

I was recently looking at new SLX in a shop. If I was to buy a new MTB (not going to happen) I would buy this group with awesome wheels - it looks so nice in my opinion. I had a 29er with 1st gen SLX and it worked so nicely - I've heard this new stuff is even better.

Enjoy that fine ride :)

Full on trail beast. I got the brakes fitted today. Here's a shot using my girlfriend's XTR wheels. Her bike rocks. (SC Blur)

SLX...the working man's group!

But seriously...SLX and 105 are for people who like to ride. Quality and durability.

Woot I built it! It is sooo damn light. My camera still sucks and I need to adjust brakes. Then we ride.

The magic appeared this weekend. I put 10 trail miles in on Saturday. Total blast.

Nice pic. The trails here are still snowy and icy. I see you are located at Cape Cod - where is that trail?

Agree..SLX makes x9 look cheap and made for a HS science project...

Four ponds reservation. Lots of dirt bike trails but great MTB stuff!

I went running at Otis and the trails are mostly clear. I am doing the cape cod trail race next month.
Email me if you want to ride during the day Tues or Thurs.
I still owe you some tires.
Bike looks great. Snowing now, but not sticking.
