Here's a question for all you knowlegable folk...

...assuming you're going to have one main race bike and make do with whatever backup/beater you can get your hands on, do you match the bike's characteristics with your own strengths or with your weaknesses?

let's use a, errr, umm hypothetical example...this guy can't sprint (or even accelerate) his way out of the proverbial wet paper bag but can climb ok and diesel along working in a breakaway ok...but lack of explosive speed has translated to lack of results...let's assume the rider is working dilligently on the physiological side of things with gym, intervals, speed drills etc and is seeing some improvement but not much.

He's also due for a new bike, custom frame, and is in a quandry...buy a sprinters bike with all the geometric and tube diameter cliches, to help the hard work pay off and (the real reason...) put him in the sprinter's mind set? Or stick with something he's more used to, ie a lighter more forgiving frame with more stage race type geometry?

So...a cyber penny for your thoughts.

if the rider is thinking this way about his equipment, he/she is beaten and not going anywhere. :bike:

What Coy and Dazza said. Get a dyno-mite race bike and ride it! Get a coach.
