anyone had hands-on with this stuff (http://www.embrocationmagazine.com/online/Shimano-R785-in-stock) yet? i know it's just barely available, and i've read the usual bikerumor etc sites that have apparently played with pre-production or early samples.

i'm hoping to put it on my next cross/gravel bike, and i do work with Embrocation Cycling Journal a bit, but i'm sure these two sets will be long gone by the time i have the cash and frameset. hopefully stock when i'm ready won't be an issue?

i trust a lot of the minds here to give me some pros/cons if they've ridden on it. was pretty interested in the SRAM hydro setup but with what i've heard/seen re: Avid hydro vs Shimano, and then the recalls, i'd rather try Shimano for now. thoughts?

Tristan did a thorough review ATH. Sounds awesome, frankly.

It is REALLY nice stuff. The brakes have tons of power but great modulation to go with it, and the DI2 is proven. It looks way better than the SRAM stuff too, probably because there are no mechanical guts to bulk things up.

I have gotten a handful of rides in on production level R785 over the past couple months. and am seriously considering it for my next build. Just need to get over the whole battery and discs thing... :)

Whether or not I think wet discs are the 'way to go' on an enthusiasts road bike(I don't-DOH!!)...I'll predict the re introduced sram disc stuff will be tied to a electronic shifting system(better late than never) and Campagnolo for 2015, will have a wet disc/EPS setup..bet with Formula discs...

Too bad formula brakes are inferior to shimano...

I've had R1s and XTRs...XTRs are easier to set up and stronger with good modulation

if the mtb sector is any indication, shimano will be the way to go...though i do wish I didnt have to go electro to get the hydro...

Basically very similar system to XT and XTR, same calipers. Very nice ride feel.
Rode one around the parking lot at a Shimano Tech night outside of Boston.

but hey, I like 6spd friction shifters on the down tube....
