Since you folks are the most devil-may-care, bon vivant, world traveling, smooth talking bunch I know, I figured this would be the place to ask. Who was the best Bond? Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton or Pierce Brosnan?

I think Connery IS Bond, though Dalton is the most talented actor to play Bond.

Now that I've said that, I remember a few weeks ago he was in the last Bugs Bunny Movie with Jenna Elfman, Steve Martin and Brendan Frazier. Pretty funny. Funnier if I would have been 8, but funny just the same.

Sean- nobody else was even close. He was so believable and the films he was in were just the best- no over the top special effects just lots of cars, guns and sex.

'You expect me to talk, Goldfinger?'
'No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die'

in Goldfinger. If you've read the books then you understand...he is 'bond'.

Less car choreography and more b@stard!

Peter Sellers was the best James Bond in Casino Royale. It was one of the earlier ones, you may have missed it.

Connery hands down. Though I could deal with Roger Moore, the rest just sucked IMHO.

William

PS: If you're into martial arts:
In the "Man with the Golden Gun", there is a short Krabi-Krabong demo right before to hokey Karate stuff Roger Moore does. KK is the old Thai Military weapons system that Muay Thai decends from. Fast, powerful, and ferocious. It's a short, tip of the iceberg demo, but good stuff.

Connery is the only choice.

Sean, hands down, no doubt. The movies are inevitably campier than the books, but Connery's portrayal is without question closest to the character in the books.

Agreed. How could anybody vote for Timothy Dalton???

Samster

How is this even debatable?

Second place, however, is a genuine debate. I think that Remington Steele guy does a decent job. Didn't much care for Moore... Lazenby never made much of an impression... and Dalton was just way too serious (with some male pattern hair issues as well.)

Me.

A guy can dream, can't he?

Brosnan definitely puts a "modern" spin on the character that is pretty entertaining and is second best, IMHO, to Connery, the one and only true Bond.

Back in 2002, I hiked the West Highland Way in the Scottish Highlands. Several miles of the hike were on the grounds of Black Mount, Ian Fleming's estate. I find it unusual that the UK has a reputation for upper class snobbery, but the landowners are much more amenable to people using their land. The WHW has considerable foot traffic, so it has to be an inconvenience. I'm sure there are tax implications, but still much less of a NIMBY attitude than here in the States.

I believe that landowners in Great Britain and Scotland are required by law to allow walkers, bikers, etc. access to established or historic trails and roads on their property.

Sean Connery was by far the best Bond.

CONNERY.

followed by Brosnan, who I felt brought a lot of acerbic character to the role.

Connery by a wide margin, followed by Dalton. Both of them could play Bond with the necessary cold-blooded ruthlessness for the character to be believable, none of the others could imho.

the real star of the show was always the car,
especially when it was an Aston Martin.

what ever...the best bond ever would have been jason statham but the idiots who decide these things are misguided morons.
remington steele was awful as a tv show worse as a "james bond" movie.

I recall reading once that Ian Fleming didn't want Sean Connery as bond; he thought David Niven was the actor most suited to bond. Regardless, because Sean defined the movie role, he is the best one. But, OHMSS with George was a great movie and would have been the best if Sean stuck around with it.

As far as bond ladies, Honor Blackman as Pussy Galore was the best followed by Diana Rigg...
