Velo Orange PBP Rims on Chris King mango r45 32 spoked hubs. Shimano compatible. The finish on the rims is shiny chrome. I mean shiny. Spokes are silver. Hubs are a beautiful King mango (aka orange) color.

Just helped a friend purchased a desalvo from the forum which these came on. The previous owner said that they were basically new less a three mile spin. My friend is pretty low key and is going to change the headset and wheels to something a little more understated. (I actually think the bike looks great)

So the wheels are on the block.

Some info on the rims can be found here: http://store.velo-orange.com/index.php/vo-pbp-700c-rims.html

I believe the wheels are Shimano 11 speed compatible. See the comments below...

My friend has taken them out for three rides of 10 miles each. So the wheels have no more than 35 miles on them.

Price: Lowered to $525 $550 shipped OBO. Sale includes Zipp silver skewers. No tires or cassette.

Here are some pictures of them on the bike. I can take close ups if necessary.

Thanks,

Ron

if there is a spacer behind the 10 speed cassette, they are 11 speed compatible, if not, they are 10 speed only.

If the freehub body has two polished bands running around it in parallel, it's 11 speed compatible. Without the two bands it is only 10 speed.

Thanks. I will check it out tonight and report back.

Well, I took these pictures after removing the Shimano 10 speed cassette. There was a spacer (shown in the picture). I cannot see the if there are two bands on the cassette body but that is probably more due to picture quality. I think it's safe to assume that this is 11 speed compatible but let me know if you think I am wrong.

i can see 2 bands on the top of the bottom-most visible spline in the 1st pic, id say that sucker is 11spd friendly!

Yeah, they're kind of faint on the website but you can see them in the below image too. Looks like your wheelset has them.

Your buddy got a kwayzee deal on that DeSalvo, Ron.

Lucky for him the seller didn't feel like parting out the sweet bike.

Thanks everyone. I also just got off the phone with someone at Chris King and they confirmed by the serial number that the hubs are 11 speed compatible. Nice!

I agree. He did and he loves the bike. But man he owes be BIG. At least he's saving me money by diverting my attention to his bike needs instead of mine.

Well, GLWS. They're berry nice wheels. If you still have them in a week you might be hearing from me.

i cant believe these are still here at this price.

i'm on a self imposed buying freeze or i'd make the leap.

remember campy people, since these are 11-sp compatible, you can just throw a 6800 11-sp cassette on these and run them on your campy-11 bike, no problemo...

For fun, I mounted the wheels on my hampsten and did a quick 14 miles to get a feel for them. Two impressions ~ 1) These probably weigh at least 100 grams more than the H Plus Son Archetype wheels that I have and they didn't feel any slower. Dare I say faster? 2) They are so smooth. I am sure the 32/32 spokes and lower profile box section rims are the reasons. Same tires and tubes as my other wheels so I feel the comparison was reasonably apples to apples. All I've got to say is if i didn't have wheels on order already i'd be seriously considering buying these from my buddy.

There's only one reason why this hasn't sold yet - mango-coloured hubs; they beg for a colour-coordinated build.

Just realized they kind of match my dog in the background.

I actually like them with the black headset and tape. Not too much bling. Just a little.

They don't look too out of place on your Hampsten really. I know you mentioned another handbuilt wheelset on the way, but think about it?! :)

Paceline is an interesting place. If these R45s were laced to Pacenti SL23s they would have sold in an hour. Even as an admitted wheel hurr, I must paraphrase Richard Sachs, the rim is not the wheel. Anyway, can't understand why the cat who sold the DeSalvo in the first place had no room for this amazing wheelset. Seriously, the build quality is brilliant.

Sanks Ron!

oh, ya, I like the wide rims, but I like awesome wheels even more.

If they were Campy, it would have sold much quicker ;-)
