A friend is looking for a road bike. She'd like something than can pull double duty as a commuter and a road bike for longer weekend rides. I'm thinking something like a Surly Pacer...modern-ish components would be nice...

Really pretty open to whatever's out there, but trying to keep it around $650-700 shipped.

Gracias!

How tall is your friend? I had a Surly Pacer and they are too heavy to enjoy on the weekends. I am selling my commuter, and it could easily do long 30milers, or go loaded touring.

The seatpost is jacked up for me at 5'8", but it could fit her if you drop it down. That would shorten up the effective top tube/seat-to-bar distance too.

I'd say start there for entry levels. Although they might slightly be too long in the top tube given the usually larger sizes at BD and Nashbar.

$100 more gives you more size choices, but a downgrade in components

Or, more road race-ish for $400
