Was rushing to get to a ride this morning -- my bedford slides down the concrete stairs, scraping up the nds seatstay and the top tube.

and then i missed the ride.

so farking upset. one moment of carelessness and a pristine bike looks like crap.

Nooch-pal, sorry to hear. That happened to me a month after I got my brand new custom Taylor. The good thing is....I stopped caring so much and rode the crap out of it for the last five years.

Scratches add character.

Little touch up paint and it'll be good to go.

Hey, don't feel bad. Every car (or bike) has to get its first scratch.

About 2 rides with my new kirk, and my lezyne pump slides down the downtube between the small ring and the tube, and as I pedal, the pressure from the chain gauges the paint on the downtube.

It sucked, but it is cosmetic damage.

In perspective, you still have a fantastic bike. and if it really bothers you, there is always a repaint.

did something similar to my brand new stealth red Pronto only it was scratched while on the car rack driving to WV w/another bike's pedal doing a loop-de-loop for all 190 miles. can you imagine my disbelief when I arrived and realized my carelessness? nicked the heck out of the chain stay, but hey it's only red paint :)

I have done much worse with cars. Time for an "Oh well....." and then move on.

For comparison, here's Jeremy Dunn's Richard Sachs:

Full post full of scratches and beat ups...

It's a tool, don't sweat it.

well that's made me feel better...

so what's the move -- clear nail polish so it doesn't rust? go forth and beat the living hell out of it until it's time for a re-paint?

I'd say the latter.

Some touch up nail polish if you're feel froggy.

First scratch hurts the most, then who cares. I've taken to intentionally "marking" a new frame/bike as it stops me from thinking about selling it. And when I hear the inevitable "ping" from a rock being kicked up and hitting the frame, I care much less. As stated, it's a tool, ride the !@#$ out of it.

guess it'll make it more fun to beat up and then send it in to get painted like NRV's Colorado... :)

Testors model paint at your local hobby store. You will be fine in a matter of minutes.

Scratches add character.

Little touch up paint and it'll be good to go.

Built a beautiful red DeRosa once, customer comes in for delivery fit, swings foot over top tube, cleat smacks top tube, chip/dent, glad he did it, not me.

That is one thing I really liked about my Seven 622 SLX. The Ti AND carbon bits are raw. They say you can use the ScotchBrite pads on the entire frame to bring back the luster. Downside is it will never shine like a nicely painted, and clear coated, frame.

Sorry to hear about that drop. It probably wouldn't have upset you as much as it did if you had fallen rather than dropped the bike, but then, you might have been hurt.

There's nothing better than naked ti to avoid that feeling (said the man who's about to get his Pegoretti repainted).

Yeah, I've got naked ti... it's sitting without a crank while I try to get my quarq issues resolved... and i agree -- such a beautiful and simple finish.

i think my next steel will just be clear coated..

dont use nail polish. auto touch up paint comes in a little applicator bottle with a brush, available at literally any auto parts store. much more durable than nail polish.

That might be a tad extreme in the realm of early-onset patina.

Of course, I'm the guy who sent a frame off to get fixed after my second ride on it led to a nasty ding in the top tube. So more do as I say, not as I do...

We share your pain since most of us have done similar. I did something on par the first day I owned one of my bikes. Kicked myself for about a week. Still haven't gotten around to touching it up though. The pain will pass. If it doesn't, it's fixable.

Testors/ model paint is good.

Would Bedford have specific touch up paint for your bike?

Feel your pain Nooch. People will say scratches, etc, add character, and that may be true but it still sucks. I dropped my chain soon after getting my Sachs and F'd up my chain stay with some big paint chips. I called Richard and he pointed me to some good paint and I touched it up. Looks better but...

Scratches and chips never really bothered me too much, I like my bikes with a nice "patina"
If you really wanted to, like enr1co suggested, you could always talk with whoever painted the bike. It would be really cool if when you purchased a frame it came with a tiny bottle of matching touch up paint.

The good news it is black (or a really dark color). The dark colors touch up quite well. It'll hurt for a while, but you'll get over it.

Filling in chips is not all that hard, either on a bike or on a car. You can go to an art store for a really fine brush or break a wooden toothpick into narrower bits. Dip brush/toothpick into paint/nail polish and dab, don't stroke, the paint into the chip. Go slow, take your time and it'll turn out fine.

You're not alone and many of us feel your pain. I left my C-50 leaning against a car recently at a cyclocross event and came back to it to see that it had slide down and it now had a paint chip on the top tube :crap:

If it makes you feel ant better, the last time I rode my bike I ended up scratching my shifter and di2 rear derailleur but also managed to break my hip requiring an ambulance ride and emergency surgery. :(

I would have gladly rather have had my bike explode after catching on fire and be able to walk away.

He was right.
