i need some help. i have a frame and was taking all the components off to clean it. it has 10 speed campagnolo centaur rear derailleur (power shift compatible with red accents - not sure of the year). i am trying to take off the derailleur and am worried it may be stripped. i have tried using the torx t 25 and t30 and all i get is spinning. on the other side of the rear derailleur , i have tried the torx t 25 and still same result. any suggestions on how to remove this from the frame ? all help is appreciated. thanks

? An allen wrench should do it.

I've only had Torx fittings for brakes on campy.....

10 spd is 5mm Allen, 10 spd Red and 11 spd are T-25 Torx.

11 spd is T-25 Torx.

Makes sense. Haven't made that jump yet. Good to know.

If the RD hanger is removable then cut the hanger off, and then cut the chunk around the rd bolt using a dremel. THen replace it with a new one.

New one = hanger

"Replace it with a new one" -- the bike, you mean, right?

That's the reason I said.. ."if the rd is removable"... then just cut it and replace it. I would not advice to do that in a steel frame with no replaceable rd hanger eh? :)

Pretty sure that was a playful way of making up an excuse to get a new bike......not to be taken literally.

i tried the allen wrench. it does not seem to engage - just spins around, so i assumed maybe it was a torx. the frame is steel and the rd hanger is not removable. i have not had issues w/ other campy rear derailleurs before. just not sure if i am missing something or if it is just stripped.

It sounds stripped. I've removed a lot of 8-10spd Campagnolo rear derailleurs and I can't recall one that wasn't 5mm.

Didn't see the ps red comments. I agree that it's probably torx. I was thinking the older design.

I'm not at home so don't have access to the parts catalog, but if the bolt is aluminum, then it's a Torx. I'm pretty sure it is, Powershift, red bolt.gotta kinda fish around in there to get it to engage.

according to the tech docs, it's a T-25

Crazy question since the bolt is recessed pretty deep in there, is the wrench even making it to the bolt?

good work.

also, just so you and everyone is aware, all of the campy tech documents are available for download on their website, for free. if in doubt about a fastener size, it's an easy look-up.

And it is great stuff for older years equipment.
