What good riding is there near Las Vegas?

Possible work conference trip coming up. I may have some time for riding. What routes do people recommend?

Check out McGhie's bike store. Ask for Amy. Every time i have to go LV they take me out for an amazing day of riding.

I've only climbed out there but the Red Rock Canyon loop looks like a really nice ride -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Rock_Canyon_National_Conservation_Area

Staying at the Cosmopolitan late January. Ride/car to start....how manageable is riding out of the LV strip? Maybe 3-4 hour ride.

I've never ridden out there, but every time I've gone out to Red Rock, that loop looks like awesome riding. The parks would be great too.

Riding out of strip is sketchy but doable. More people will probably stare at you like you are a weirdo than will be staring at the folks dressed up like Elvis, Darth Vader, etc.

For Red Rock, it is nice to drive out W Charleston Rd (159) You can park at Broken Spoke Bike Shop.

For the Lake Mead ride, you need to drive to Henderson and follow 93 East and turn left onto Lakeshore Rd. Turn right into the bike path trail head

As noted above some of this has been posted, but here's a couple.

You can ride from hotel, if you want to do that pm me and i'll give you a couple options of some routes with decent wide roads and traffic not too bad that will get you out west, Red Rock area.

with car:
1. Red Rock and the Red Rock Loop. Park at Charleston and Desert Foothills, NEC in the Albertsons parking lot. 20 mins from hotel. On any Saturday it will be you and 50 other riders doing the same. There's Dunkin Donuts and a small bike shop that opens at 9, if you need it (Broken Spoke). Head west on Charleston (159) into the Red Rock Canyon. About 4.5 miles you can head up and do the "loop" into the conservation area. 17 miles around that on a one way road, lots of bikes, hiking, and very low traffic. Good climbing, great views. Once back on the 159 continue west to Blue Diamond. Very small community with store/gathering spot for road and mountain bikes. Keep heading around to the 160 and head west and you can add another couple thousand vertical feet and climb Mt. Potosi. Bit more traffic here, but great shoulder. Easy to follow this on google map for mileage.

2. drive out and try River Mountain Trail in Henderson/Boulder City. About 35 miles, most of it dedicated trail/road. Good ride. Here's web site: http://rivermountainstrail.com/. Good trail, good ride, good views of Lake Mead and the city.
