Hallooo! I'm new to the forum and absolutely love the wealth of info that's on here. I recently purchased a "new to me" Serotta Classique Ti (will post some photos soon). I'm wondering what the heck the nub on the back of the headtube is for. I searched, but couldn't find any info. Any idea?

^ Yes, that is for a frame-mounted pump.

Enjoy the bike!

Consider yourself lucky to have the pump peg.

On many frames it was not installed.

Pump pegs are excellent things.

It is kind of strange that some Serottas have them and some don't. Lugged frames and Ti frames seem to all have them, but both my tigged steel frames are lacking, as is the Col. AL. I'm always annoyed when I grab a bike for a ride and find it's one that doesn't have a peg. Old (at least until 1992) Cannondales have them but CAAD3 and newer are lacking. Another that's surprisingly lacking is the Ritchey Road Logic. I would have thought TR was a frame pump kind of guy, or still was one in 1997.

The color is kind of a Dukes of Hazzard General Lee orange. I'll get some pics up as soon as I get it tweaked and our Chicago deeeeeep freeze lets up a bit.

I'm actually a little embarrassed that I didn't figure it out, but I'm glad it's there in case I ever go with a frame pump :)

Be sure to post pics in production or custom bike image gallery.

some wanted them and some did not of Serottas. I prefer them but on the carbon ones I DID not have or want them:confused:

STEEL AND TI WERE THE BUYER'S DECISION - FOR SOME DID NOT LIKE LOOKS AND USED CO2 ONLY

AND OTHERS JUST DID NOT FIND A NEED FOR THEM. IN very small TT lengths it might have been difficult to find what customer wanted.

BUT then are easily added to steel and ti….KIRK, ELLIS, BEDFORD do it. I do not thing most pure race bikes had on needed them (Ask ATMO Richard Sachs about history in that arena.

Pump pegs and chain hangers...vanishing tid bits.

I wish I had a chain hanger on every bike. I carry a pocket sized Lezyne that works better than any frame pump I ever had (and I ditched the CO2).
