i was behind a minivan with a hitch tray rack and a few mtn bikes today. with the fat tires and different sized frames loaded alternately, the brake lights and signal lights were obscured. i supposed at night the glare would be obvious but in the daylight, not so much. luckily the van had a high mount brake light so it wasn't an issue to know when they were braking. but i wonder why remote brake lights aren't required when you have something high enough to block the tails. anyone with a hitch rack use a brake light? how'd you mount it?

They are required. Just like when you have the hitch rack, you're supposed to remote mount your plate. But no one does.

That's why I love my old Thule Space Station - bikes ride high and lights are visible

Not so much the plate but so far no issues, even when discussing with an police officer

I've gotten the whole spiel before of how if I commit a crime, they wouldn't be able to identify me.

Halfords has light boards that attach to bike racks.
