Post'um if ya got'um:

Portland Velo/Madison's Grill annual "First Ride". Our largest turnout ever with 96 riders making it for the photo and another 20 missing it by a few minutes. Excellent ride around Portland then back to Madison's for an amazing free breakfast buffet.

We did not take pictures on our Oakland hills ride today. But parked across from Peet's in Montclair was an old BMW 2002 that had a dog in the passenger seat ("Dog is my co-pilot"?) wearing white Wayfarers with Croakies.

The year is off to an interesting start.

Nice big group and a fun way to start the year. (note that the three guys in the front row are posed straight out of a first grade class photo.)

I started the year off with a two man, 36 mile, cross bike, Urban Assault Ride in Baltimore City. The empty streets at 11AM tells me that people of Baltimore like their drink on NYE.

My last ride of 2013 ran all the way to midnight, my first ride of 2014 started at 12:01 It was in the low 20's and kinda dark so it was a solo ride. Got home at 2:00am, 8 hours later I was back on the bike.

I did my first ever Polar bar swim then went home and took a hot shower then jumped on the bike for a nice mellow 2 hour ride. It was a great way to start the new year actually I saw quite a few riders out, good to see.
Have a Happy New Year.

on the road in 75 degrees and no wind day. 3k climbing on the Nano which is a blast to ride. Lot's of riders out on a perfect weather day.

Had a pleasant ride up the Burke Gilman trail to meet up with my wife who was doing a Polar Bear plunge with a buddy. Watched her get wet then rode like heck back to our village Starbucks to meet them there. Nice 24 mile way to start the new year.

Sometimes I wonder if you are kidding or nuts! :)

The roads in MA are not crazy enough? you want to be out when everyone is guaranteed to be merry?

(Can I come and join you on some mixed terrain ride again? Perhaps in the spring when the snow is gone).

24 miles in KC today with the wind chill at 10 deg F and wind out of the North. Still, getting out felt good!

Here's looking at you from West Point in Mt. Tam!
5+ hours of mixed terrain riding with incredible views I didn't appreciate even though I have lived in SF for nearly 20 years. Definitely need to do more off-road riding!

After almost 3 weeks off the bike, I got a quick shake down ride to test my new to me Campy Record components for the trusty Colnago CT1

I went out for an hour late afternoon. Put a new rack on the Trek last night, so hauled some beverages to the neighbors to test it out. More heal clearance than on the MTB so I was happy with it. Snow was coming down pretty fast but nice out except for the wind. I stayed in the woods as much as possible to avoid it.

Very cool pic! Likewise, need to do more off road and road on your side of the bay!

My 9 year old son and I spent two hours on the mountain bikes playing follow the leader around the neighborhood streets and alleys, up ramps and down stairs, and over every path throughout a deserted Ohio Wesleyan campus.
A good way to start the year.

My new years ride was limited to 30 minutes of light spinning on trainer due to foot surgery (morton's neuroma) 9 days ago ...

Can't wait to get stitches out tomorrow!

Just an easy cruise around the county reservoir for 18 miles. Perfect weather in SoCal meant too many hazards (people, dogs, and RC cars) walking the largely unused park roads so I cut it short.

Went out late yesterday after spending the morning rearranging furniture with the missus. Did a solo 22 mile ride, got back just as it was getting dark. Kinda quiet, and uniformly gray. Based on the weather forecasts that's probably the last ride I'll do for the next week. :butt:

Wow, you guys on the right coast are hardmen!

Its pics like these that inspire me to get my butt on the saddle instead of wimping out on a ride when I see frost on the grass and the morning low temps are in the low 40's.

I broke my put-the-road-bike-away rule yesterday for an easy geezer ride, since a lot of the salt had been washed away by rain. Just four of us. One guy had the Ultimate Commuter; Surly LHT with bar mitts, fenders and studded tires (which were noisy on the dry pavement, oh well). Mid 20s and sunny. Nice.
Today was a day to ride the rollers; about a foot of new fluffy white stuff.

Oh yeah, Happy New Year Paceliners!!

Two of us rode up to Crowne Point in the Columbia River Gorge; 50 miles and 1,700'. It's one of the most beautiful local rides any time of year. We broke out of fairly thick fog into a sparkling clear vista once we got on the mountain. Temperature in low 40s and, in a real anomaly, no head wind coming home on Marine Dr. It doesn't get much better.

The only issue is that either my hear rate monitor was acting up or I've become a zombie. It registered at 31 bpm for an extended period.

Also rode along the American River Parkway, then shot up through (OK, crawled up through) El Dorado Hills, and Serrano.

Out on my own for the first half of the ride until I picked up another solo rider half-way through. Temp was 0º f the entire afternoon but I was very comfortable. This was my first ride with platform pedals and a boot better able to handle the bitter cold. The both worked very well for me.

Up Fremont Peak near San Juan Batista, CA

Was my first time up that way - its a bit outta the way from the Bay Area - but holy hell - it's got the best 360° view in the area by far. Probably more than 50 mile unimpeded view in ALL directions from the rocky outcrop at the top. Highly recommended!
